TFMR Podcast #9 - "Ranting Andy" Hoffman

Yesterday, I had an opportunity to speak with Andy Hoffman of Miles Franklin Precious Metals Investments. If you not already a fan of the daily "Ranting Andy" blogposts from Miles Franklin, you likely become one after you've listened to this forty-minute podcast.

Brash, bold and insightful, Andy combines his expert analysis with a New York, tell-it-like-it-is attitude. The result is some of the consistently best PM analysis on the internet.

Leper with AIDS beats three headed blue Smurf.

Thanks for the pic DPH- I needed that!

Dec 26, 2011 - 11:51pm

Well I have evolved from the 3 headed Smurf to the sage one in the family. Last year I gave my nephew silver coins. He looked at them and asked what they were worth. I have since given him a pile to read. This year his father made the mistake of sending my email asking what he wished for cash or silver and he responded "better to go with future investment". I thought smart kid (he's an engineer).

That was a refreshing change from the usual roll of the eyes.

Family and Friends

"...even my kids took me to task and said they didn't want to hear it at the dinner table. I'm going to have to find a different tack to guide and push them a little. I guess that's what happens when kids get to be smarter than dad. I didn't wise up until I was 25."

My father-in-law was a broker and a trader, and now works as an expert witness in commodities cases. He gets it. The others do not dispute the truth, but they are not interested and are clear sometimes that they don't want to hear more. It's a willful ignorance and a normalcy bias thing going on in their heads. I understand but sometimes I get angry and refuse to let them tell me about some make believe show because they won't let me tell them about reality.

I decided that money and reality is something that you are not ready for until you are, if ever. I therefore have kept notes about it, hoping to distil the game down into a few pages as possible for a gift to my kids and grandchildren when I am no longer around. Place a gold eagle in each envelope for the grandkids 18th birthday, and maybe they will read it and pass down their knowledge too.

Kabuki financial theatre –

Kabuki financial theatre – Congress net worth up 15 percent from 2004 to 2010 while the average American sees their net worth decline by 8 percent in the same timeframe. Welcome to plutocrat USA.

And we all wonder who the real terrorists are. I have said it before and I'll say it again the true terrorist are within.

$1600 and $29 taken out; Where do we go?

$1600 and $29 were both breached this morning. Where do we go from here?

At what price would you buy gold and silver?

Will there be silver that we can buy below 29?

Dec 27, 2011 - 8:30am

another clearing house

only thing left for these errr … “deciders” to do is to try and keep their control mechanism intact, and that’s a handful!! We expect another failure of a much bigger foreign clearing firm within the next few weeks. One that has to be bailed out so the money printers can make more of what they can’t produce in a fair market, against the masses are buying Gold and Silver and clearing their retirement funds from a rigged casino ….. be positioned well and as always … Stay Strong!!

Site ate another long post!

When will I learn not to type in this box! I start out thinking I am writing a quick note, then get all inspired and write a lengthy essay or rant that I think will change lives and make the world a better place...then one wrong keystroke and it vanishes! The culprit seems to be the backspace key when I try to correct a spelling error.

Good article. Nothing we have not read but it encourages me to keep buying

Physical and paper prices will be diverging! coin dealers will likely continue to price their product as they always have--from the paper spot price, set at the CME, manipulated by our EE friends. But this will not last. We have a window of opportunity as buyers.

The Commerce Department said

The Commerce Department said on Friday ...that personal spending in November climbed 0.1 percent, likely the result of a 0.1 percent decline in wages and salaries. The Commerce Department said that durable goods orders surged 3.8 percent last month, but analysts said such a torrid pace of growth would not likely to carry over to 2012.

Frankly, I'd buy

"$1600 and $29 were both breached this morning. Where do we go from here?

At what price would you buy gold and silver?

PMs will follow the market.

If they keep the market in a range, PMs will continue trade up, outperforming everything else but with 2-4 big shakeouts a year.

If they let markets sell off a bit, PMs will sell off a bit more than the general market due to manipulation.

If PMs decouple, the system is over and we get paid.

If chaos breaks out, the system is over and we get paid.

But we only get paid after they try to shake us out with everything they have.

You can't time the end of the system. A collapse will take everyone by surprise and a reset of the system by TPTB will take anyone but an insider by surprise too. After that reset, you won't be able to buy at the bottom. It will be a vertical ramp and they will probably close markets, so you have to buy on the way down, something that violates the basic tenets of trading. But this isn't just a trade. Even if they don't close markets, no vendor in his right mind will part with his stock, so there won't be any physical available. GO IMMEDIATELY TO THE MALL AND BUY ALL THE GOLD JEWELRY YOU CAN GET, BECAUSE THIS WILL STILL BE AVAILABLE FOR A VERY SHORT TIME.

Sorry, we are not getting paid without hanging tight and ignoring paper markets. Paper is part of they system and will reign supreme until the system is removed.

US Food Stamps

Was it my imagination... or did I see a posting indicating that about 48% of the US population is using the food stamp program..... It struck me as extreme, and I couldn't find the post again so I might have been mistaken. Can someone clarify please

Landowner, try this...

Food Stamp usage is around 48 million, not 48%, big difference

Stop by the Speakeasy for a drink some time. It's been quite of late, but if the metals and miners ever get moving we bring in a lively crowd.

Dec 27, 2011 - 10:40am

this week

not much volume to speak of--gold hanging around 1600 and silver 29

action starts again next week and I bet we see PM all over the place until we get some direction from something like USD, or QE.

With Sears having troubles, tie that to Best Buys troubles and I'd have to think retail sales and profits will be hard pressed to be good this year.

HUI can't get traction

Dec 27, 2011 - 10:46am

O.T. But ...

I asked last week about ordering from Provident, Gainesville, APMEX etc and eventually ordered 100 ASEs from Gainesville. Bank wire transfer was made the same day (12-21-11) and confirmation was received later in day. They are showing an expected shipping date of 1-4-12. Is 14 days the "usual" wait for shipping? Thanks in advance.

@Fr. Bill - Just read

@Fr. Bill - Just read your post from last night - great stuff. Some people are given the "job" to spread the word. They are the "speaking" prophets (versus the "seeing (future)" ones). It is the lousiest of all the spiritual gifts - the one nobody wants and the one most religious leaders hate. If God this gift to a person, life sucks and there's nothing much you can do about it. Just do what you are lead to do and try to find consolation in other places. Re-reading Isaiah and Jeremiah along the way helps.

@ ClinkinKY

As a follow up on my reply to your question of last week, I ordered my Krugs and ASE's from Provident on Friday 12/16. Paid by wire same day. Items shipped from Lavon, TX on Tuesday 12/20. Received in Houston, TX area on Friday 12/23 - one week after order placed.

Just a guess but it may be that they are back-ordered from their supplier in getting their hands on the ASE's for your order.
