A few spices, oils and different types wines and vinegar can have a huge effect on meals. Don't plan on not using something you have stored but try to use it at least a few meals a week. Curries, Sesame or Olive oil, balsamic vinegar, fruit juices in season, dried spices from all cuisines can really change a meal and make big difference. Take it on as a challenge now and make it taste good. If you can't make it taste good now, why buy it for a time when you will be miserable? Better to invest your money in better stuff that you will want to eat. Set it to the side or in your "barter box" and trade away for something you need.
