I have also used them for

I have also used them for most of my bullion purchases. They are good for really small quantities as the postage is free, but you do have to pay a premium for it. If I was buying in larger quantities then I would probably use CoinInvestDirect.com as they are a lot cheaper for the bullion but they charge  €15 on orders totalling USD/GBP/EUR 1.500 and €9 on orders totalling USD/GBP/EUR 2.500. So if you are looking to buy small amounts of bullion coins in the UK then bullionbypost.co.uk is best.  Also, the other thing that I liked about bullionbypost was that you could pay cash into their bank account rather than having an electronic trail from your bank account for the Empire to see.

You do the math.

Paying With Cash

Very true, this is why i use them. But, look at the FAQ page for cash

http://www.bullionbypost.co.uk/info/faqs/

"If you are paying by cash we do not require any identity for orders under £5,000 in a single transaction or less than £10,000 in multiple transactions over a 12 month period.

For orders in excess of these limits we are required to keep identification to comply with HM Revenue and Customs regulations"

Buying Gold Sovereigns

I recently had an account with BullionVault, but after reading several threads of the dubious reliability of Swiss vaults to deliver your physical, I asked them how to proceed if the internet went down. They replied that business could probably continue by phone but declined to give the address of vault in Switzerland for "security reasons".I am now in cash waiting for Turd's Summer low to buy gold Sovereigns which are Capital Gains Tax exempt in UK. I still hold a small silver account with BV to avoid VAT which is paid on silver in UK; as I'm not a trader its also good to be able to buy dips and sell highs which suits silver's volatility. I'm very interested in other's experiences with gold sovereigns......cheapest I've found so far are at Atkinsonsthejewellers.

BullionVault and Sovereigns

I too am a holder of  BullionVault accounts.    I hold mainly Silver in 1000 oz. bars that can be registered to your name with weight and serial number.   I too was curious about the BullionVault system under "worse case" scenario terms but came to the conclusion that nothing in life is certain except death.   I too have thought about buying Sovereigns and also Krugerrands.   My first choice would be Krugerrands because they are 1oz and are now recognized all over the World.   I came to the conclusion that everything in Gold and Silver has a potential risk.   My choice for "in-your-hand" precious metal would be coins, especially Gold.   I wouldn't bother with Silver coins or bars retail as there is Vat.  Coins also incur a premium when you buy and sell.   Also with coins you are liable to be robbed.   It doesn't matter how well you hide them if you find yourself hanging upside down with your balls being toasted with a blow-torch you would soon show your hiding place.    Most doom-mongers you read on the internet talk of "the end of the World" as we know it and everyone will go back to being cave-men and beating each other with clubs.   They are also the ones that keep on banging on about $10000 oz Silver.   I personally think the system will to a certain extent collapse monetarily but the basic systems including the internet will still be running.   At least with a company like BullionVault or Goldmoney if there is a rush to sell precious metal you will be able to sell quicker than people trying lug great bags of Silver round to the local coin merchant plus no Vat on the Silver transactions.

My final thought is that my intention is to wait for Silver to go to 20-1 with Gold.   Transfer into Gold and then start buying Krugerrands (not telling a soul).   Then to "disappear" my "stash" from government and tax officials.   Just changing enough when I want to buy a new car or go on a luxury cruise.   Hope this helps someone.
