It seems apparent that the comex has been liberally using shares of SLV to satisfy delivery of comex contracts. The problem is that there isn't enough physical to go around, so they just create, and short new shares of SLV without real silver backing. Isn't this against the SLV prospectus.... um, yes, but who cares? Not owners of SLV apparently. And the comex receipt holders are none the wiser because they almost never take physical possession of the silver they supposedly own. This is turning into one BIG mf'n train wreck coming soon to a market near you. If you own these things, you are f'in crazy.

Good luck, and Godspeed

Good post, but you should note that there are only 21 days for delivery to take place, as they don't deliver on weekends. This means all deliveries must be made by July 29th.

I know, I know

@ Gael

Yes, and.....

GM will never go bankrupt, and...... the economy is fundamentally sound, and....... the banking sector is well capitalized, and..... subprime is contained, and....... unemployment wont go over 8% as long as we payoff the banks, and...... housing prices always go up, and...... deficits do not matter, and..... there's no such thing as foreclosure paperwork fraud factories, and..... LME keeps oz for oz inventory for all their outstanding contracts, and...... comex cannot deliver contracts with ETF equivalents, and....... the custodian of SLV is a non biased mediator with no conflict of interest, and...... shares of SLV can't be shorted.......

Really??? So then, naked short selling does not equate to 'creating' shares? And I guess taking on debt doesn't equate to 'creating' more paper money either?

You are either a troll, or less than a 'novice', and naive to the extreme. If you are not a troll, stick around and learn.

The Problem with GLD and SLV ETFs....... Read here

https://seekingalpha.com/article/110609-the-problem-with-gld-and-slv-etfs

From prospectus :

Creation and redemption . . . . . . . . . . The trust issues and redeems Baskets of iShares on a continuous basis (a

Basket equals 50,000 iShares). Baskets of iShares are only issued or

redeemed in exchange for an amount of silver determined by the trustee on

each day that NYSE Arca is open for regular trading. No iShares are

issued unless the custodian has allocated to the trust’s account (except for

an unallocated amount of silver not in excess of 1100 ounces), the

corresponding amount of silver. On the day of creation of the trust, a

Basket required delivery of 500,000 ounces of silver. The amount of silver

necessary for the creation of a Basket, or to be received upon redemption

of a Basket, decreases continuously over the life of the trust, due to the

payment or accrual of fees and other expenses or liabilities payable by the

trust. Baskets may be created or redeemed only by Authorized

Participants, who pay the trustee a transaction fee for each order to create

or redeem Baskets. See “Description of the iShares and the Trust

Agreement” for more details.

Authorized Participants . . . . . . . . . . . Baskets may be created or redeemed only by Authorized Participants.

Each Authorized Participant must be a registered broker-dealer, a

participant in DTC, have entered into an agreement with the trustee (the

Authorized Participant Agreement) and be in a position to transfer silver

to, and take delivery of silver from, the custodian through one or more

silver accounts. The Authorized Participant Agreement provides the

procedures for the creation and redemption of Baskets and for the

delivery of silver in connection with such creations or redemptions. A

list of the current Authorized Participants can be obtained from the

trustee or the sponsor.

The short interest does exist, just see the number of shares outstanding and the NAV. It seems to go against the prospectus but as I said before, no one seems to care. So tell me Gael, do the shares sold short not amount to creation of unbacked shares of SLV? I think the parties that bought those shares would beg to differ, their account says so in black and white. They will someday find it difficult to redeem those shares for silver even if they have the necessary 50,ooo shares required. Because there are more shares than there are oz of silver. This is the main purpose of my statements.... as a warning to stick with physical, because there are at least 100 paper claims on every oz of silver. (Jeff Christian (CPM): CFTC meeting in Washington DC on March 25th 2010)

Naked shorting does...... or did you not consider that?

To Short you must borrow, then sell. Well both the person who was borrowed from and the person sold to, now have a claim on the same share of SLV. There may not be any 'new' shares, but the claims on that share have doubled.... in essence, the shares have virtually increased.

And that does not even include the practice of naked short selling.

The fact that there is clearly not enough physical backing to cover the shares based on the NAV is telling, don't you think??
