Has anyone else thought about these "Fuel Fleas" that are possibly reaching the west coast From Japan? If so they could be on food crops as well.
Buy local, wash everything.
These fuel fleas?
The worst thing about radiation is the unkowns. This is a technology that has only been around since 1945. There just hasnt been the time needed to study long term effects.
For all we know Hiroshima may still have radiation that contributes to birth defects in the area, there could be things that don't show up for generations.
It is human nature that the biggest fear is fear of the unknown. Perhaps we are overreacting because of this subconscious fear. I can't imagine any of this could be good though.
Did you know there is a new form of mold that was found living off the radiation inside the Chernobyl tanks? Black mold, they call it "Radiotrophic fungi"
Think it was other interviews w/ Arnie Gunderson ( Former Nuclear Plant Operator) He was talking about air filters on west coast of U.S. containing average 5 Hot particles per day (in April) from Fukushima. Says it is good science.
The analysis of the post-Hiroshima and post-Nagasaki effects have parallels in the United States from the above-ground nuclear testing at the Nevada proving grounds. There were significant fallout patterns across the Western USA due to those nuclear incidents. Plus, there is the dataset from Chernobyl.
The reality is that we can not largely escape the fuel fleas from any of these incidents with much reliability. The people who frequent the Western USA will have fall out from Nevada in the dirt. The people in Eastern Europe will have Chernobyl fallout. The people in Japan will have Fukushima fall out.
Some of these isotopes have a persistent half-life of greater than 30 years (Cesium in particular). I am not aware of any simple and reliable methods to detect Cesium in top-soil or food. Therefore, you can not easily detect these small amounts of radioactive isotopes. You can have the radioactive isotope in very small quantities and then see it throw a few particles to a Geiger counter, but distinguishing that radiation from background is difficult without a really good understanding of where to look. Counters have not been created for our lungs or biological tissue (liver, kidney, brain, etc).
Effects to our ovaries and testicles from radiation are known in the acute exposure. However, the long-term exposure to small quantities of highly radioactive particles (such as plutonium and uranium) are just not defined for the civilian medical corps. If the US DOD or the Japanese government has that dataset (which I suspect they do), they are not sharing that raw database with international medicine.
This stuff is so damn scarey and one heck of an difficult issue to address with any public population because we all know one thing for sure. It's really bad news when it is not contained. Radiation poisons, maims, alters our physiology and kills although death itself doesn't seem to be what bothers us most.
We don't know enough about risk tolerance, mitigation, management. As you pointed out strongsidejedi it stands to reason that 'somebody' knows enough to lay down some quality analysis and projection.
Mercury and lead have analogous effects and are well studied and studies shared. The public doesn't have the fear of those two metals that they had 25 yrs ago.
Until education is distributed politicians and the media won't be able to talk to us with any credibility. The fear factor is too large. So far there hasn't been a catastrophic event that has been managed to a positive outcome which means we haven't discovered the model empirically either.
no kidding. Ripping on Canada eh?
Canada, the barely-existent army and a few acronyms like CRTC and CFB Trenton have a lot to do with the topic at hand for sure. Pretty subtle, what was the point of that? Why not throw in a few words about burning submarines patrolling the river or crashing Search & Rescue helicopters?
Bully on. Bully for you. Wooley Bully.
As relevant as corrupt politicians from ages gone by. Perhaps we've all forgotten yesterday when another corrupt politician did another corrupt thing.
Thanks for a good attempt to control the flow by demanding a rebuttal or....just what exactly?
The failure of the aquaberg is concerning. Good to see it reported. Aerial photographs too showing the difference a few days make. Here's hoping the water stops rising. And soon. Not a lot of freeboard left around the plant.
EDIT - CNN has coverage of the burst berm. Not sayin it's the best quality. Apparently 8 ft of freeboard remaining and expectation right now is the river will rise another 2 ft, leaving 6.
Hey HaP(formerly of da woods)
Smart money here just took good advice and let the thing go...
I see you're back, with more messages to your betters. Ok. I realize that slow learners are entitled to their say. I have no problem with that.
Couple of quick comments on your latest effort.
"The failure of the aquaberg is concerning."
"The failure of the aquaberg is concerning."
Yeah, you might want to write a memo to somebody on your luvlist here who tried to ream out anybody who shed doubt on that dodo! : "On Sunday afternoon, workers accidentally deflated an auxiliary berm at the plant, said Omaha Public Power District spokesman Jeff Hanson ."
So, you like umm, CNN for up to the minute coverage of important events huh? The same outfit what faked the whole GULF WAR reportage thing in a studio?!? Kool.
Here's a useful alternative for folks here what don't go quite so gaga for kaka....https://www.youtube.com/dutchsinse#p/u/7/pWDi4fyag30
That would be it, but your sensitivity about the whole CANADIAN thing leaves me intruiged: Happy in da Woods - I luved SCTV, and I'm wondering which 'happy' be thee: is it Happy Hour(Happy Hour is a kid's show, hosted by the affable Happy Marsden from a bar with his friends Sammy the Goose and Mike the Bartender)...or those crazy Leutonians from Happy Wanderers(Stan and Yosh Shmenge are the leaders of the polka band The Happy Wanderers. Originally from Leutonia, they came to America and conquered the polka charts, but are still looking for some crossover success.)?!?
Either way, you've captured my heart dudester...and the reference the SHAM THE SHAM & THE PHAROAHS(wooleybully!?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4qNVm8yl-Sc) is just the icing on the cake~! Took me back to a much cleaner place in time....on yeah...they banned Sam on some radio stations too! Another ripper!
Lighten up boy, an take some good advice...
let it go now. There's no severance pay with your contract.
p.s this is a truly serious situation now, and there's no room for people clearing out their lint online....prayers are advisable, and can be done offline at one's convenience.
ummm. ok. Given only 2 choices I'd take Happy Wanderers. Having watched the shows they are spoofing (Ein Prosit for one) I can relate to the zest for happiness and keeping the childlike innocence alive.
Thanks for the youtube link to dutchsinse. A lot of claims that everything is 100% flooded and my initial thought was that the reactor building was all wet however that isn't the case. It is not 100% flooded. Let's say that again. Not 100% flooded. He's like reverse MSM. Apart from that it did add detail to the omaha news report and the concern in his voice is completely justified even if his words are over the top.
While you assume that I think CNN is a credible source the reason I posted it was with reference to the News Blackout. Is CNN mainstream media? Did youtuber show any false facts in the CNN report?
Thought Homer Simpson was a cartoon character. In this case deflating of the aquaboom is not a good kind of life imitating art.
If Canada has banned broadcasting Homer in the Control Room well that just makes more sense now. "Kids, don't try this at home". Prescient.
Canada rocks. Best country to live in on the whole planet. Hardly Nirvana just the best there is. Feel free to take swipes at the shortcomings plenty to choose from.
Peace dude...I just want to bring this thing to a dignified end...kind of like the burial Nigel Farage et al did for the Euro last week. The ability to laugh in the midst of the most God-awful trials is what scares tptb (& their sock puppets amonsgt us) the most. I see yu are real. Wanderers is the correct choice. So is Happy Marsden, tho a little up above on the jaded scale...
Childhood innocence. Yes Sir. What sheltered me and my generation from the storm, but is increasing denied to those who follow.
Childhood innocence. The thing we needed to protect the most, of all that we inherited from our betters, but is slippin away from our own kids faster than a Missouri levee.
Maybe in retrospect y'all will understand my reference to the Franklin Scandal and the consequences of an (Norte) America which declined to protect it's own...
sorry as I be to say it, and in FULL awareness of what happens to the MESSENGER, chickens are comin home to roost bout now.
CANADA. once upon a time, indeed, twas "Best country to live in on the whole planet"
I know...cause I was born and grew up there. And why I left. I'm done with this thread now man. Thanks for your response. I mean it.
sorry, could not resist this last edit. If we gonna go down, I aim to go down laughin!
If you've found a better place to live then drop a hint....unless you want to keep it for yourself which I'd totally understand. It isn't what it was here I just don't know of a better place and moving is not fun unless the reward is worth it.
So I think we were relegated to the conspiracy section because we focused on the media coverage of the event, rather than the event itself. Perhaps that was a prudent move on Stephanies part, as we have no way to know for sure if there is any manipulation.
I think there is some control of the coverage going on, but I have to guess because I don't know anyone who can verify my thoughts. I'm not here to make fun of anyone or where anyone has chosen to live.
But with that in mind lets just stick to the "conspiracy theory" that there is media blackout going on here in this thread, and leave the other thread for the facts.
One thing for example that sticks out at me, is that they are using made up words to describe the situation. "Aqua-Berm"? Come on, we all know thats something they made up on the fly because it sounds good. Can anyone find that word in a dictionary? I can't. I think its because its not a real word.
"We were able to control the water with leprechaun castings and fairy dust" sounds equally plausable.
Another strange thing I saw was that one of the "aqua-berms" had been accidentally deflated by a worker there. Does that mean that these devices are inflatable like rafts? That dosen't sound too solid to me.
