Or...my favorite 'sippin' rum (over ice), Sailor Jerry's.

Silver, rum, pirates, captains, sailors, ships, and Caribbean hula girls. Nice combo :)

I got two of these today

The two I got are 4 ounces of silver each and are the 2011 series signed by "Turbo Tax Tim" Geithner, our Secretary of the Treasury at the time. They're beautiful pieces and are very thin, maybe 1/16th of an inch thick, just by eyeballing them. Maybe as thin as ag1969's mirror monkey coin, which are beautiful pieces by the way. My retailer says they also come in 8 and 12 ounce versions (double and triple thick). I asked him to get me some.

As I sat at my retailer's counter I couldn't help but notice the irony of what I was doing. On a one-for-one basis, I was literally trading two paper $100 bills for two silver $100 bills. It kind of made me mad that the very people who issued the paper $100 bills were the reason I was sitting there. But, in the end, I was very happy to have traded two pieces of toilet-paper for for two of these beauties.

Any opinions on the recent

Any opinions on the recent 2oz Ceopatra round ?

Not my cup of tea personally but many people are into it and liking the obverse in particular. Producers say if there is enough interest in this coin, they might make a series out of them, so one to watch ?

Cleopatra

I like it...a lot. VERY pretty and I really like the ultra-high relief multi-ounce rounds. They are fun to hold and fondle. And with Cleopatra on the front....well.

5 ounce "Great Smoky Mountains" coin

I got this 5 ounce, uncirculated "America The Beautiful" coin yesterday and as I said before, I really like the big multi-ounce rounds. It came boxed with a COA and I got it for $150. It was sitting right in front of me and I couldn't resist :)

As a note about silver demand, my retailer ordered almost a quarter-ton of silver about three weeks ago and just got it in. It's almost all gone. On the day I was there a guy came in and ordered $20,000 worth of silver and a day before that he got another order for $10,000 worth of silver. And this is just one little coin shop. If this is a common occurrence at other coin shops, there's a hell-of-a-lot more demand than I realized or have been reading about.

Here's what I got yesterday:

very nice!

You are right, big coins and rounds have a certain magic property about them.

I'll go and check in my 1970s or 1980s collection if there's any nice big ones to share here.

I'll be back

swampgas, you rascal  Nice

swampgas, you rascal Nice buy....I have entered into an agreement to make a significant numismatic purchase (for me anyway) as I said earlier but I wont say what it is until the deal is done and arrived ok. That will probably be later in the month of November/early December if all goes well. Here's hoping.

1970s

This one's for our Japanese friend

It's a commemorative round from the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo. Still in its original airtight Vinyl pouch.

It's 96 grams of 1000 silver.

Struck in 120 grams of 1000 silver.
