I do find it interesting that we are living in a nation where most people aren't exactly sure what our President is doing. You could see that as a good thing, and you could see the same technique as not a very good thing for a republic.
Let me clear-up yur confusion;
1) Its a good executive order when your guy (president) does it
2) Its a bad executive order when the other guys' president does it

You weren't supposed to guess. The point of the exericse is to show just how powerful these techniques can be on the mind. The whole process is ascertaining information without pissing off the robbers. He told the authorities that he wanted a car so he could drive to the precinct to surrender, and they assumed that was what they wanted it for. By now, most of the money was gone. He burnt some of it, and hid some of it down, I guess in a basement area in walls.
Vonburpenstein, you get points for working rapport techniques with me both as hostage taker and forum member. Less points because I saw you doing it. More subtle ways to do it with me without being overt. Overt works against you. Like brown nosing people or sucking up to people. nobody likes a yes person,
The problem with asking me what I want before ascertaining any details is that I could have asked for a tank and you'd now be in a position to have to deliver it. Once you promise me something you have to deliver. Just as Donald Trump has to in someway deliver on his promises.
our common time here is not a big rapport maker and saying you read a book that I read might have some effect in a first meeting by somebody I don't know.
For all you folks tht live on the east coast above NYC, May the Lord be With you with a portable heater.
For those of you who live in the midwest
Dear Lord. That's it.
And for those of you who live in Miami. Wait until next Hurricane season.
...on getting a car, which you know is a challenge...what could we be working toward that would be good for you and keep us all moving toward a peaceful resolution?
....and I didn't say I was finished w the book, I gotta be workn and dadn too!

You're goal is to get me to surrender and not acquiesce to my requests. The goal of this exercise was to show how you can tell somebody NO, without them knowing that you've said no and engaging them in detail.
You forgot the name of the book on your first offer. NEVER SPLIT THE DIFFERENCE.
You proposed a WIN-WIN situation. That's the first thing he teaches that you should never do. It's ineffective and can be disastrous. NO deal is better than a bad deal. And you dealt yourself a bad deal by offering me the car right off and then putting whatever kind of condiment I wanted on top.
Once you said yes,to my request, you were in trouble. Now you have to deliver the car or you break trust. By asking you to come into the bank, which you didn't reply to, I now have control of the head negiatotor. You don't want to give me power, only the illusion that I am in control. If the key's you given me couldn't open the door remotely, I would have killed you because you broke trust.
Giving me a car destabilizes the situation and I'm going to make demands, get rid of the police, clear the roads, tunnels and bridges. I have control. Now, I have mobility, human shields, you don't know where the money is (it was already gone in the real life scenario), you don't know who is on the inside with me, and you don't know who is out on the street observing but if you're smart you're already checking plates on every car.
Now to bring this back to real life and politics. When you are in room with a negotiator, assume he is negotiating something for his benefit.
When a politician, ANY politician, picks up a baby in a crowd, know you're being worked. You are now dealing only with emotions. Now after this, he has your complete attention. Not me. He has lost rapport with me using a parlor trick. NOw, I have to becareful of everything else he is going to say.
But you say it's ok for somebody to build rapport with you. Well, if you come to my house to do a deal with me, and I see you picking up my baby, commenting on my paintings, or over acting, you've lost my trust. But on a group level it works differently, doesn't it?
You never WANT to be caught gaining rapport with somebody. You want to do it at an unconscious level.

I had already ascertained that much information after you told me you are reading it.
The exercise was to confirm my assumption.
We'll do it again after you finish reading the book.

In the East, it could be the COLDEST New Year’s Eve on record. Perhaps we could use a little bit of that good old Global Warming that our Country, but not other countries, was going to pay TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS to protect against. Bundle up!
....I'll be through shortly but I never actually offered you the car, I asked what? And you said to get you a bullet proof car...then I had my response...telling you no right off the bat to show who is in charge?...that' not what I read...a good read regardless....and I wasn't joshing you on the pm, so ya know
