I was looking back in 2011 trying to see what definitive triggers I could find before markets drop. Most importantly looking at the US debt downgrade in August. This is what I found:
I really like this chart because it shows at every instance of insider selling spikes the market tumbles. Here's my chart with the same time line to better illustrate:
It looks to me like the insider selling might be picking up and if we break above 600:1 selling vs buying, then I would seriously consider dropping any longs and switching short. But note that this isn't necessarily for mining stocks or PM related investments, but general market longs if that makes sense. What I intend to do is make a substantial position in TZA or some inverse type ETF for approximately 1 month starting at the 1,000:1 spike.
I will be using this source as my guide going forward.
