Hi BOG

Yes, I saw your post and was going to comment and then got caught up in something else.

It took me a few seconds and then I saw the BOG on the horizon. Very clever! The Sanctuary or The 7 is a potentially very big playground to relax in and visit. That's what I'm aiming for.

I think a round of golf after breakfast would be a good idea before I hit the beach later...

Anyone know who this guy is?...

He is the one who has being dumping "my pennies"!!!...

Not too many will really miss the penny

By Robert Barron, Daily News March 31, 2012

Few tears will be shed in Nanaimo once the Canadian penny is withdrawn from circulation later this year.

Finance Minister Jim Flaherty announced on Thursday that, as a cost-saving measure in this year's federal budget, the Royal Canadian Mint will stop distributing pennies because they cost too much to make and are a "pecuniary pest."

https://www.canada.com/entertainment/books/many+will+really+miss+penny/6...

I'll be damned if he's going to do away with "the list"!...I will save the pennies from this monster!!!...

The Speak

First, I want to thank Indigo for keeping our old name, and second, I wanted to apologize for disrupting the harmony and good humor that typically characterizes this place- that is, after all, one of the reasons we come here. As Redwood and others have pointed out, it may appear unseemly and a bit petty to get worked up about something as simple as a name change, but I think for a number of us it goes deeper than that- There are many folks who have put themselves out there to post content, create an atmosphere, and to build a name for this place, some of us from the first page of the forum. Thus, many folks have "bought in" to the Speak as a community. Some of us have actually met-up in real life, based on relationships forged in this forum. Ultimately, many folks feel like it 'belongs' to all of us, which is why we bring in articles, post pictures, or even create photoshop art or humor ;-). So reactions to this thing simply reflected the idea that this is a community place, that we have invested our time and energies into it, and thus we care about it- i.e., we are stakeholders in this enterprise. The latest contretemps have, however, provoked some great discussion via PM that I hope can bring some positive things to this place:

It seems that the format at TFMR has been both a blessing and a curse: it is great because TF provided a wide-open architecture and allowed things to develop wherever there was interest, on a huge range of subjects. But is has also been a bit splintering, for the simple reason that by breaking everything up into major categories (silver miners, ETFs, etc) then breaking it AGAIN by individual forum, it winds up diluting everything, and nearly EVERY forum does not hhave enough "critical mass"- i.e., sheer numbers, to make for a genuine flow of new fresh posts... even some of the topical forums of great value are empty much of the time- there is no flow, and little reason to keep checking back in.. The only two places on the entire site that have this critical mass have been Pailin's (averaging roughly 220,000 pageviews per month) and The Speak (around 180,000 pageviews per month). No other forums have even been close.

So it seems clear that The Speak wound up filling, accidentally and organically, a need: a place where you might hear things on ALOT of different subjects, and a place where there was a constant flow of conversation and new information to make things interesting, without detracting from discussion of Turd's posts on Main and without the clogging of conversation that goes on there simply due to the volume of posts. The comparisons to the old blogspot were spot-on: most of us are interested, to some degree, in most ALL of the aspects of this site (stacking, markets, prepping, even humor) yet the have forums separated people so much that it is difficult to track down everything you are interested in, in so many different places... so you wind up not checking at all.

So some of the reaction to the name change has actually provoked some interesting thinking and discussion behind the scenes- it seems clear that many folks greatly enjoy the interesting flow of information and conversation here, and we are asking what we can do to make it better and facilitate a flow of new posts to keep things fresh, to encourage a more topical, information-oriented posts to appear here? In other words, what can we do to make this forum even more of an asset to TFMR and the Turdite community, and keep things flowing so that The Speak is an interesting place to hang out? ANY thoughts or ideas are welcome...

Pining -

I am confused, but the Speak seems to be open again - and your post would be most welcome. I took a break and came back to strange conflict. I think we can hang at the Speak, and meditate in the Sanctuary.

@ IS7

First, I also would like to apologize to you and all others who felt my replies were an over reaction. I was composing the below as I read Piney's post above.

Piney, many your ideas are terrific, especially the part about the community being sliced and diced into so many forums. The only thing that is good about it is the old users are able to search out and find the information and the new users can jump right in. When you have a multi themed thread that is lost.

As you stated there are only two forums with a lot of page views, PTC and the Speak. The reason why we were so upset at IS7's changes was because the Speak was doing what you suggested, without a "formal purpose". I think if we all give it a little push that can be accomplished.

Example: BOG and EO have two outstanding forums. Ask them to either make mention of it in the Speak or simply double post, when they feel something extra exciting or interesting is happening. If a conversation about the topic happens in the Speak, maybe the forum author, if he feels so inclined could cut and paste it into his/her forum for posterity. A little cross promotion will build more views for those forums as well.

It would be great for everyone to put more ideas into the hat as well. Not by creating something entirely new, but by improving something that already exists and make it better. It would also be an action of inclusiveness and to further build good will, within the Speak and the community.

We all want what is best for everyone. We are all on the right side of the issues and we need to build and keep strong bonds for those here. When the Turd Convention happens we all want to have good feelings for everyone.

Murphy

Thanks and sorry as well on this side of the monitor. I just left a post at The Speak. It appears we were all thinking the same thing at about the same time. No surprise there. Peace and respect )

Three Stooges Marathon

on Antenna TV today.

This new place is very elegant; a bit intimidating. Can't afford it but as long as I'm here I'll go for a swim, have brunch, then a nap on the beach.

Sorry about the commercials in this.

Another olive branch

@IS7- I want to thank you for creating yet another great virtual spot. As I said yesterday the pics are gorgeous. In that same spirit I also would share some from a recent vacation in St. Barthelemy French West Indies. St Barth's is one of the most special places anyone could visit in the world. Unfortunately ,don't leave home with out multiple credit cards though. Here's the view from our daily walk.

Here's a couple of beach shots

Wow...

Thanks for all of that. How beautiful!

I pretty much just sighed and relaxed that much more. I can't wait to go on a real vacation. It's been many years since a far away one happened.

I'm saving it all up for a big one. Soon I hope.

A before dinner cocktail...

...seemed like a good idea.

I stopped by The Leather Brick Bar for one. It's located in the basement.

Can I get you a drink before dinner?
