In the Christian churches that I've attended there hasn't been any effort to pretend the Bible as translated to English is anything but our best shot at translation. Although each is inspired and guided by prayer it is clear that each can be read differently. There has been some great discussion as to what makes the different 'versions' different and whether or not trying to keep the language current really works (my kids roll their eyes at Thee and Thou and giggle when the word ass is used). So my experience is quite different than some others.
