I just can not reconcile why they used this obviously flawed stressed concrete construction. For less money and longer life and a greater green factor (Steel is endlessly recyclable~!) they could have used steel I-beams, or steel box beams (for the same appearance factor), with virtually 0% failure modes vs. concrete. obtw. in the video the bridge appears to essentially launch itself down - faster than gravity would dictate. Why? Because the faulty distribution of tensions actually pulled the bridge down - faster than free-fall. OMG. and obtw, none of the design faults were going to be remedied by the other spans or the superstructure, going into place.
I didn't see an article on the bridge. In the sense of fair disclosure, I went there just to get the data to blow Jim Stone outta da water. My gut reaction when I saw the bridge was that it was an abortion, a tragedy waiting to happen bwtfdIk?
Here's yur first car common core minority designed; but it looks good from any angle, right?? Right?
Trump's got the Clinton Syndrome. Grabbing pussy. Stormy Daniels.
Who's next Heather Nauert?
Her hubby's worked for Goldman Sachs, The Morgue and UBS.
They share everything
Heather just got promoted
As best as I can tell, the "structure" of that span was only intended for transportation from the side of the road, until it was set in place.
Obviously, there's plenty of easier ways to do that. I caught that dash cam video of the guy trying to tighten that one loose nut they found on top, and the bridge went down so fast, he was like Wile E. Coyote starting his freefall, after the bridge already hit the ground.
It did go down much faster than gravity.
So far, the analysis that says the design was flawed, shows the blueprints with ornamental pipes as cable stays.
Who would ever approve an idiotic design like that?
Where the drawings switched? Released after the incident?
It does appear that that section was broken in transport, (cracked) and we are supposed to believe that sending one guy to tighten one loose nut was going to fix that.
All blame should be directed at the job site personnel, not the engineers who had their plans approved.
At least people are still talking about it, I'm wondering why the actual engineers have been so quiet.
I did read that their Twitter account vanished upon the collapse.
Sure, they probably lawyered up by now, with strict orders not to speak to anyone.
Since they are being hung in the press, that is a stupid strategy, and only serves the state.
But I digress, that's all lawyers ever do.
O lord, there is so much fault to be assigned here…..and so many causes.
Have you ever seen a concrete sidewalk, driveway, façade, statue, or concrete anything that wasn’t cracked???? Concrete cracks , that’s what it does. Concrete is a huge area of science – more so than you could possibly believe unless you get into the study. People (guys/men, ok? let’s get real, fk political correctness), get engineering degrees in concrete. Alfred U in S. NYS was one of the first to offer the specialty – yah, there’s that much to know about it. But, for the purpose of our discussion let me pose the question; IF Rule #1 of concrete is that it cracks, why my lord would you design a structural member out of it???? OK So, you are so clever that you figured out that you can imbed steel into it and stress the steel, to counteract (in some well-defined~!! conditions) the inherent tendency to crack. BFD. The inherent property is still there waiting to bite you in the ass at the first opportunity. Just look at the video, if you need more proof, I give up. Now, would that exact design have failed if it were made in steel? I don’t know 100%, but this much we do know; steel fails slowly, it doesn’t literally explode at the point of failure. It would have groaned and sagged and twisted and bent piece-meal fashion. It would have been lighter, and cheaper and less fragile and it wouldn’t have cracked explosively.
I mentioned the Brooklyn bridge from 1867- – still transporting a million cars/day. It is steel structured with concrete on the surface. How is it still standing? Well, there are NO critical steel girders. Period. Over the years they simply replace the girders one by one as they rust-0ut, all the while the traffic continues. They can do that indefinitely I guess.
So I’m stuck way back at the start. Why da fk did they use stressed concrete that cracks?? Yah, you could make an airplane out of stressed concrete too, just to show how clever you are, but wtf is the point?
Riddle me that batman.
The combination of thought processes on display here, and why they work so well together, is well described in this video, just released. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CX6apttsGjs
Destroying the Illusion

Well, so how did you like the pres that was never prone to seduction by a fabulous looking woman?
I am referring here to that last one that preferred the ugly line-backer type trannies.
Was that an improvement?
As far as the Kligons, past President and potential Pres, it seems they both liked/preferred the ugly women.
Apparently Trump is the only normal one, he actually goes for the gud looking ones, and frankly if I had some of those critters trying to pull my pants down.........................I might have a weak moment, how 'bout you?.
It brings me back to your original assessment that any single point failure would be catastrophic.
We're not even talking rebar, a traditional concrete reinforcement.
Just one freaking bolt to keep the columns in compression.
So one bolt breaks, and the entire structure collapses.
There's no escaping the stupidity of such a design.
Sure, I can build a car out of Bondo, but at least it's redundant. It can crack all over the place, and just keep going.
Let's see if the finger ever gets pointed at a public official here.
According to one of Jim Stone's articles, the design team was also politically well-connected.
There may simply not be any good guys in this story, and a whole shit load of stupidity to go around.
But I still have to ask, since when was it okay to build a bridge that would collapsed due to one faulty bolt?
It seems to be engineered into everything these days.

Well now that you've opened the floor for testimony, I can't answer that question without the advice of counsel. But allow me to speak for everyone else without their permission, once the coiled serpent crawls out of it's cave, a man experiences a form of paralysis. It is like being under the influence of some rarified narcotic. The man who can overcome this force is indeed a rarified evolved human being. I'm not there.
BUT as a happily married man, I have had to say to myself on a couple of occasions, I can't go back to that place and than decompress.
I also stand by my comment that that I never thought about grabbing a woman by her...... You?
Something very unappealing about that thought AND while I'll gab with you in frivolity on the subject, I don't do locker room talk with the guys about my personal accomplishments. I'll listen and nod my head but I'd rather keep my filthy thoughts to myself. I don't recieve any additional pleasure through the art of bragging about my male prowess. But that's just me.
However, I will contribute to the youtube count on that Australian comedians bit on the Mexican weather gal. I support comedians and artists. You need to venture around some of the other Spanish channels. It's a big world out there.
Since we’re talking concrete, I would be remiss in letting ya’ll go to yur grave w/o knowing a little something about concrete, don’t you agree?
First there is a major mis-conception about concrete. It does not dry. That’s right Martha, it never dries. In fact it doesn’t dry at all. Concrete “sets”. All that water that you added when you mixed it? It’s in there --- forever -- as part of the chemistry or crystal matrix. When you mix that stone dust with the water (about 1:1) the water molecules bond to the dust and form a crystalline lattice, and that lattice grows and solidifies until the mix “sets-up”. The water does NOT ''dry out'' of the mix. OK, got that? The mix will actually suck moisture out of the air if you don’t add enuf water to the mix.
Have you ever set a cardboard box on the concrete floor in yur basement and then come back after a few months and the bottom of the cardboard box is rotted out and stinkin wet?
That’s because the dry paper of the cardboard sucks the water out of the concrete. The concrete then sucks water out of the ground below to make-up for the water that the cardboard sucked out. That’s also why a concrete basement can never be “dry”. The water from the ground is constantly migrating thru the concrete and then evaporating into the basement air.
You see, concrete is “alive” in that sense, and it expands and contracts slightly as its water content varies. There are voids in the lattice that hold water. It actually takes about 100 years for concrete to completely “cure”, or harden. If you ever had the thrill of trying to remove 100 yr old concrete, you might think; ”Boy, those old guys really knew how to make concrete, this shit is like granite”. See, concrete just gets harder as it cures, IF it is in contact with the ground so that it has all the water it needs to complete the matrix, or “cure”.
Now we get back to the concrete bridge in the stinkin hot FL sun. Its gonna really dry out and shrink, until it rains then its gonna soak-up some water – maybe a thousand pounds – and expand. And its gonna do that Natural Cycle constantly until it starts to flake off and crack. Yes, they have new mixes that are epoxy fortified to resist this natural cycling, but again I ask; “Why chose such a problematic material for a structural member?”
I think it depends on if you admire people who break the moral laws that WE are supposed to subscribe to (who wrote those BTW?) Or if you just admire people who break mores just because they can.
Would I be OK with my son in law with a hooker? No.
Do I care about a politician with a hooker? No, but I bet the politicians wife does.
It is all relative.
If you expect to ride high on the popularist vote, then get aligned with the popularist expectations of your behaviour. That is the key to popularity. That is why we allow really really outsized paychecks. They are supposed to be whiter than white. Better than us in some way. More capable.
If you are human and falliable then don't expect to be paid for whiter than white behaviour, because we can get dirty white at home thanks, and for a much cheaper price.
I think it is well time for people to be paid in a non rockstar way because NONE of them are actual Rockstars. They are pretenders pretending. And always motivated by $$
"And when you're a star they let you do it. You can do anything ... Grab them by the pussy. You can do anything."
He didn't say he did it. It was a boastful comment about what women (cringe) will let famous men do in front of another famous man.
Maybe a lucrative " outsource your bridges " deal that has kickbacks galore and an added bonus to knock the USA engineers as incapable?
On the lookout?
<edit> how many contracts are for tender to overseas firms because your infrastructure is crumbling"

Can I quote you?
NOBODY said he did that. Especially me. I just said that's not a picture I ever entertained but if you like I can conjure up any picture I fancy, and project out into your minds. . And I asked a group of filthy horny pigs if they ever entertained that picture and they said, they hadn't entertained that particular picture but I ain't telling ya the pictures they did entertain.
I don't excuse or condone anything Trump has done with any of the women that accuse him of groping and kissing them without their permission. Plus the accusation isn't kissing and groping this time. It's six months of rabbit sex. Maybe one time with a trannie would be better?
And most of you are smart of enough to know that as a 1% billionaire with incredible fame, women walked around him asking for it. On the list of things I care about, that is number 3456. Could go up and down depending on whether you guys find a smoking gun on that Florida bridge.
But I know one thing, all of a sudden, y'all seem to be interested in the Art of Persuasion. Taking the side of his defense. Now, the persuasion technique being used is at least he didn't stick his hand up a pigs ass and touch himself like the other sicko's. He's a real man. OK!!! I get it.
Ya see, I don't really give two hoots. I don't have a political hero that I need to defend and I'm a big fan of Ben Franklin and he loved French woman, wine but he also kept a book on the position of the stars and could predict the weather better than Janette Garcia with all that Rothschild weather equipment.. Something tells me Trump would buy a star, but never care to interpret it.
If you're going to take the highest oath of office in the worlds superpower. Ya gonna have your personal life totally exposed. That's his problem, not mine. But maybe we can conclude that Jesus didn't ordain his Presidency and I believe that Jesus probably loves Bill and Hillary and Obama more than you do but probably doesn't give a shit about any of it either.
Ya see, I don't know what's like to be a billionaire and have women fawinging over me constantly. Either do you. Nor do I know how it feels to have a crooked dick that needs airing out and be married to Hillary. Seems to me that if we are going to defend somebody because of our deep understanding, Big Willie the man that needs a little compassion.
In the meantime, I'd like to offer a more pleasant picture than a man grabbing a woman in the vagina.

U-tube is now full of analysis videos, as it is sooo obviously such a fertile subject area to gather clicks. They are all about; “WTF went wrong?” Let me save ya’ll some precious time. To wit; Very first rule in engineering – Murphy’s Law – “If it can go wrong it will”. This thing was designed with five dozen critical failure points, each of which (when they failed) would instantaneously lead to a fatal and catastrophic and explosive failure. See the collapse videos. I simply don’t shive-a-git which critical big bolt failed. WTF happened to gud engineering? Was this design simply a matter of; ‘Hey, we’re bored. Let’s see how much we can fk with success before someone dies’?
I spoke with the relative that works in Gov construction last nite. He says; 1) that company used this design for a bridge that failed while it was being put in place in Chesapeake VA., but Hey, they have all the minority requirements in place soo……. 2) No one will go to jail, most especially any Gov employees that signed-off on it. Never happened the last time – never will. 3) Don’t even touch the sacrosanct minority hiring/contract issue. Its off the table for starters. 4) Down the line the victims’ families may try to sue the moving company. Like Fixer noted, Lawyers gonna feast on this.
