Your Fourth and Final Contest

Wed, Sep 14, 2011 - 9:54pm

So far, three contests and three winners. This last contest will be open all night and I'll review the guesses in the morning. Like the previous three, this contest ends when I post my regular morning update on Thursday.

First, though, a quick look at the charts. I don't want to spend much time on them, however, because they're so depressing and boring. Gold continues to be trapped under a descending trendline on the hourly chart. The only good news is that it's almost over. Soon, the lines will converge upon some serious support, first at 1810 and then at 1800. I'm still planning on the floor holding and launching gold higher by Friday or Monday. Silver has me a little nervous, at least in the short term. It is desperately trying to stay above the lower line of the channel it's been in since June. IF it breaks down, some stops will be triggered and you could see it move to 38 or so pretty quickly. Once again, however, total OI remains low so we can rightfully assume that silver is in some pretty strong hands. Any dip down toward 38 should be very short-lived and will present an excellent buying opportunity.

OK, onto our final contest. Traffic at this site has been very heavy since the day it opened in June. It dropped a little in July but has since gotten busier than ever. In our first 90 days, what is the total amount of pageviews? Not visitors. Not members. What is the total amount of individually loaded pages? Hint: The answer has two commas in it. I'm going to log into Google Analytics right after I post this so that I can get the official number. The Turdite with the closest guess by tomorrow morning U.S. time gets the last autographed yellow hat.

Good night and good luck. TF

Worried about the regulators and that law suit are they? I still say manipulation is bigger than just one bank or just the banker bastards... IMHO

Tom L · Sep 15, 2011 - 8:30am

The interventions are now a nightly occurence. That's pure desperation on their part. They're trying to create technical selling. They need this under control to stuff the miners back in the box. It could get very ugly for the rest of the week. $1794 needs to hold.

I would be worried about buying. I think it is overbought and signals are mixed, and economy looks like the shitter. If anything it may be a short-term short.

Machines that dispense gold bars are set to make their debut in Beijing on Sep 23.The machines will dispense gold bars weighing up to 2.5 kilograms and work just like the normal automatic teller machines (ATMs), cnr.cn reported, citing sources close to the matter.

The machines can accept both cash and credit cards. The cash-for-gold machines will be on trial at Beijing's upscale clubs and private banks during the initial period for security reasons.

The gold ATMs have been launched by German company TG Gold-Super-Markt and are at present in existence in countries like the United Arab Emirates, Spain and the US.

WTF just happened to gold? Price just dropped to $1789. Is this another raid?

Seoul_Stacker · Sep 15, 2011 - 8:50am

a raid to me Javajunkie. Hang tight is all I can say. We all know how this ends; it's only a matter of time.

silver foil hat AinT · Sep 15, 2011 - 8:55am

they walk the price down on the massive volume of 3 contracts per cent drop, then pick up stop losses on volume of 50, 100, 150 or more without moving the price up more than 5 cents.

edit.... looking at silver tic chart on netdania, not gold

Pure guess based on propriety empirical formulas supported by 4 yrs of University Math/Engineering education:

QE3 and more bad news from the banks. Totally plausible, we hear the calls for "stimulus" rising by the day. We'll probably get the announcement on 9/27 or 28.

This is the latest use of the standard Cartel MO: take PMs down in advance of gold-friendly news, then manage the rise once the news hits so gold never advances more than a couple or three %.

We can see how deathly scared they are that gold could be viewed by the masses as the only true Safe Haven. They've been trying to forestall that perception for over a decade. The eurozone crack up is giving the usd a temporary lease on life, but don't mistake it for a cure for terminal debt disease.

Just a matter of time until it all goes pear shaped. Buy PM and related investments while they remain cheap.

Shill · Sep 15, 2011 - 8:58am

GDX drops below 60 and I am calling it a day for sure.
