Rational Economic Behavior - Can This Prove Reliable as a Metric?

Thursday, April 10, 2014 - 12:46am

Too Many Events

Thursday, April 3, 2014 - 12:53am

Thursday, March 27, 2014 - 1:19am

Does this surprise anyone? Not me, either.

What also does not surprise me is the noteworthy omission as to which party the accused senator belongs to. Look how the story opens:

Stacking is Like Golf

Thursday, March 20, 2014 - 12:10pm

Who needs some irreverence? Good, me too.

Golf is exactly like stacking. There are pundits aplenty that extol the virtues of the game, the relaxing nature of it, the serenity of the courses, the simplicity of hitting a stationary golf ball, watching it travel in flight, alight gently...

FCPA, Gold, and Miners

Thursday, March 13, 2014 - 12:23am

Sometimes it happens like that. Just drifting with some thoughts as I enjoy a nice, easy six mile run on my favorite trail, when suddenly, something clicks.

I had this thought a bit of time ago, but just could not get my brain around it in any meaningful way. That is, until one day, I...

Let’s compare dog shi- to a central bank’s product? No, it’s not a movie line or a joke, although...

Comparative Assessment: The Military Option

Thursday, February 6, 2014 - 12:31am

Any true analysis of near term predictions must take into account the various military options and capabilities of the world's current powers.

Recently, and I apologize in advance for not taking the time to go back and link to it, a post appeared here discussing the Chinese military...

What Does An Ounce of Gold Cost?

Thursday, January 30, 2014 - 1:17am
This is a metals site, right? Is this not a simple, basic question that one would ask when one first decides to investigate the purchase of an ounce of gold? Of course. But, think long and hard about this simple question, because it sets up the whole discussion: What does an ounce of gold cost? No...

Defamation and Blogging - The 9th Circuit Has Spoken

Friday, January 24, 2014 - 4:23pm
What First Amendment protections are afforded a blogger sued for defamation? This was the question presented recently in a case just decided in the most liberal appellate court jurisdiction in the USA, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.

Focus, Concentrate, Pay Attention

Wednesday, January 15, 2014 - 10:02pm

It seems like a simple concept, really. But there are people who readily admit that they make their livings, nice ones at that, by knowingly creating distractions even though people are keenly watching their every move!

No, I'm not talking about bankers--yet.

Of course, I am...

Happy New Year, and all . . .

Wednesday, January 8, 2014 - 11:11pm
Well first off, Happy New Year everyone! After months and months of crazy busywork as a trial lawyer, the Holidays are a welcomed break from the action. My normal posting days of Wednesday, fell exactly on Christmas and...

Kalifornia's Red Tape, Err . . . Hot Sauce

Thursday, December 12, 2013 - 12:37am

I was going to post something about the JPM patent application regarding crypto currencies, comparing two contrasting viewpoints, here and here , but...
