Absolute Must Listen Batchelor-Cohen

Wed, Jun 22, 2016 - 9:26am

We post these each week and we have been doing so for the past 2.5 years. Sadly, the crisis of The New Cold War has only worsened over the months and this latest update from Batchelor and Cohen is a must listen.

Here are the show notes from John Batchelor's website:

Suwalki Gap to Syrian Skies in the New Cold War. Stephen F. Cohen, NYU, Princeton University, EastWestAccord.com.

“…Last Tuesday, NATO defense ministers agreed to send 4,000 troops to Poland and the Baltic States, with many on either side of the Suwalki gap. On the same day, Russia began a week-long series of snap exercises. NATO countries are simultaneously participating in the largest military exercise in Poland since the end of the Cold War. The Pentagon has proposed quadrupling its spending on European security in the fiscal 2017 budget and calls the program the European Reassurance Initiative.

On Sunday, Russian President Vladimir Putin appeared on Fareed Zakaria's show on CNN to play down the idea that his country and NATO were edging toward a "new cold war." He accused NATO, along with the Ukranian government, of "scaremongering" after the annexation of Crimea. "If we stick to this very logic, the scaremongering, that's probably the way to a cold war,” he told Zakaria, through a translator.

“The United States, Britain, Germany, Canada and Poland will all contribute "battle groups" of about 800 soldiers that would be in place as early as 2017. Britain's battle group, according to the Financial Times, will be based in Estonia. The Americans are likely to be based in Poland, the Germans in Lithuania and the Canadians in Latvia. The particulars will be ironed out at a NATO summit in Warsaw next month.

“It is unlikely that the Suwalki gap itself will see much troop buildup, but the battle groups are meant to give a sense of security that the gap fails to provide. Russia has more than 50 warships based in Kaliningrad, as well as submarines, land troops, two air bases and scores of nuclear-enabled missiles. Belarus, on the other side, is seen as firmly within the Kremlin's orbit...”

Again, I strongly urge you to listen this week and every week. And thanks to John and Steve for their continued diligence.

Lavrov/Gromiko part

I`m living in Russia and was watching this conference live in rusian. The part with comparing Lavrov to Gromiko was after Putin receiving a question about Hilary. He told that he personally didn`t work with her and told to ask Lavrov as he did. And after that he made a sarcastic joke telling that Lavrov is working as FM for ages, more that Gromiko did.

So I`m not sure if your interpretation is correct on that part.

In Surprise Twist, EU Will Resume Turkey EU Membership Talks...

...Just Days After Brexit Referendum

Keep an eye on this one. If Turkey get membership into the EU, then under NATO's Charter, they can invoke Article 4 of the NATO Charter that says that if any NATO Country is attacked, all members are obligated to join and defend.

My bad. I realized after I wrote the above that Turkey is already a member of NATO. But if they were to receive membership into the EU, then the reluctant members of the EU that do not want Turkey into the EU, would be obliged at that point to invoke Article 4 of NATO.

I listened to the show...

I've got to admit, it's been more than a few months since I've listened to the broadcast. The cluelessness of Steven Cohen seemed to make it pointless.

He's come a long way.

I would say he has correctly identified the United States government is the greatest threat to humanity. What he used to dismiss as stupidity, he now correctly identifies as malevolence and evil.

That's progress.

Pointing out the complicity of the American press corps is also a nice touch.

Steven Cohen is actually beginning to sound a lot like Jim Willie.

The United States, and all of Western Europe are essentially committing suicide, and Putin does not need to fight a war to win.

He wins, if he can avoid one.

Calling Washington DC a bunch of warmongers is progress. I don't think he's figured out why yet, but he certainly has noticed who the troublemakers are. Stating that there's no difference between Republicans and Democrats on this issue, is also an amazing admission.

Putin has effectively destroyed the United States proxy armies, and he's not the least bit worried about the American Armed Forces. Obama has already decimated them, and they don't take orders from him anymore anyway.

I don't think Obama is capable of bombing Damascus, unless he can find an ally who still has a military.

That's going to have to come from NATO, and we will have to see if any of those countries are willing to suicide their own Armed Forces.

The good news is, with the impending economic collapse, blame will fall squarely on those who caused it.

That's good enough for me.

Mr Fix - thanks (re: your 10:25 post)

Thanks for the commentary / summary Mr Fix - really good. It is encouraging that Cohen has allowed the scales to fall from his eyes to enable him to see the evil that is running Washington. One hopes he can wake-up the rest of indoctrinated America.

Maybe one part of the reason is that in America there is a preponderance of bible-thumping mad Christians who really want to bring on "The End Times" and the coming of their saviour. My name for them is psychopaths.
