Question about mining resources

I would like to invest in mining shares and have no interest in dealing with a broker. Can anyone recommend any good primers for gaining a basic understanding of the mining market? If I want to avoid picking, can one purchase the XAU or HUI indices through services like Ameritrade? Not trying to sound ignorant here, but I have avoided shares like the black plague for about 10 years other than Franklin Gold and Precious Metals fund in my 401k. I've been thinking about this for awhile and Santa's pushing me to reconsider.

Read The Creature from Jekyll

Read The Creature from Jekyll Island by G. Edward Griffin if you want to know the origins of the Federal Reserve.

Doc good luck with that!

I thought the same thing google who owns the Fed, and follow the strange and wonderfull array of smoke and mirrors.I found a dated current list somewhere but be prepared for a long search the only info I could find was in those odd sites. Most people think the Fed is a government agency there is a reason for that.

Important numbers

Wow! 36 seems like such a serious number for silver. Douglas Adams was wrong about 42.

Exergy, great post!

The urgency was palpable. And thanks for the great synopsis of the mess we're in.

Today I lectured the home health aide for my mother about going over to Chris Martenson's site for a start at figuring out what's going on. I lectured her about financial crisis. I told her to go buy some coins.

Find myself getting more and more vocal to complete strangers about this!

"Muckman"

Looks like I just graduated to "Muckman", for topping 250 posts. Wow, Mom would be so proud!

Actually all it means is I spend way way way too much time on this blog. Laundry is piling up....

I can only add to yesterdays

I can only add to yesterdays thought that I posted that PM trading by the average person will become a thing of the past due to the risk and/or exclusion by the EE and the Fed. etc. as a means to keep control of the MOPE economy we live in.

I see overnight that the Austrailian market also has banned certain types of PM trading in addition to the recent Dodd/Frank bill that is being used as a pre-text to do the same thing in the U.S.

I believe were safe with our physical PM purchases for now but in time they will stop that also. There is precedent with the 1930's confiscation so it should be viewed as a possibility.

If you look at it as their need to keep the ultimate market/U.S. economy ponzi going then they must ultimately control the markets, especially the commodities market.

The next 14-30 days should get real interesting. Late August is looking real ugly to me at this point due to the debt ceiling.
