Our Weekend Homework - "Rollover"

Fri, Jun 1, 2012 - 5:02pm

To prepare for what will, most assuredly, be a wild week ahead, there is nothing quite as relaxing as some cinematic entertainment to help your minds off of things. NOT!

I only first heard of the 1981 movie, "Rollover", a few weeks ago. On page 96 of his great book "The Golden Revolution", John Butler discusses how the events depicted in this film could easily transpire today. In the film, global liquidity vanishes when the Saudis begin moving reserves out of dollars and into gold due to fears of a dollar collapse. Obviously, the plot is a bit dated but the premise is still real. Here's the wiki page for the film: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rollover_(film)

Substitute the Saudis for the Russians or the Chinese. Better yet, don't even imagine a sovereign boogeyman. Simply imagine a global liquidity event/meltdown like 2008 or, potentially, 2012.

First, if you haven't yet, please page through this presentation by the hedge fund manager Raoul Pal. If you don't think it sounds plausible, you haven't been paying attention recently.

The End Game

Now, watch this brief compilation that intermingles parts of Rollover with actual news footage from 2008.

Rollover 1981... world economic collapse

Getting nervous yet? Me, too. Now, I urge you to take some time and watch the entire film here. Maybe make some popcorn. Kick back, relax and prepare to be seriously unnerved.

GLD creation and redemption

Dear gold and silverbugs,

I wrote about a week ago (https://www.tfmetalsreport.com/comment/97090#comment-97090) that

I am not sure it was pointed out that GLD lost 1.3% of its inventory on Tuesday (just over 15 tonnes). On Thursday the week before, JPM had quoted a negative 1-month GOFO on Bloomberg. So this looks like some significant allocation of physical gold has taken place.

If history is any guide, some central bank(s) will now go long paper gold in order to lift the price and reduce the outflow of physical gold. The last time we had this configuration (end of Dec 2011), this was good for an increase in the paper price of gold from $1550 to $1780.

If you are interested in more details on how the inventory of GLD correlates with future gold prices, please see

In case you have heard someone claim that GLD did not have any gold, you can think about why the trading strategy is effective. This is basically a confirmation that GLD does have the gold they claim (as is the fax from HSBC that Screwtape intercepted).

Turd, thought this would interest you

But Mitch Daniels is now officially a Bilderberg.

Another guest jumped out, and made me do a double take.

Peter Thiel, who donated millions to Ron Paul, is also among the attendees.

This could either mean: 1) that "the Powers" feel as if they have to start dialogue with members of the burgeoning Freedom Movement, or 2) Peter Thiel could be a plant. It could perhaps mean something else entirely that I'm just not smart enough to see.

Still, interesting.

Going to happen?

Look around you - it's happening NOW. I guess the ATMs are still running but I do wonder for how much longer.

Just some free advice from some random dude on teh intarwebz, but you might want to spend this weekend buying things you might need.

I would say spend it on necessities, but based on Weimar precedents, I don't think it's going to matter what you buy as long as it isn't dollars.

Things will happen much faster than many believe.

The powerful have access to algos. They will not be denied. Only the bottom of the food chain that have not become aware will be too slow. Like Gross stated, the bottom of the food chain is made of a multitude of very small creatures. They are about to be swallowed. I am afraid they will, with guidance "Leadership?" strike out at each other. Everything to date has happened very rapidly. I am expecting no change.Think about how fast information moves today. I am thinking weeks and not months.

Jun 1, 2012 - 5:50pm

Didn't FOFOA predict this happening last week? GLD withdrawals being the sign of a bottom, that is.

We discussed Rollover in the

We discussed Rollover in the comments section last month I think. For the record, I would roll over with Jane Fonda in this movie without hesitation. Other points of note: the squelchy synth music is awesome, Bob Gunton is boss and the speech from the old banker in the pivotal scene is somewhat haunting.

Now, when it comes to the Saudis secretly moving from the Dollar into gold, truth may be stranger than fiction. Inquiring Turdites with time and patience may wish to check this out: https://www.usagold.com/goldtrail/archives/another1.html

Victor, I'm not sure that anyone seriously suggests GLD has no gold. Whether it's leased gold from CBs or the bullion banks' unallocated pool on the other hand... Ultimately, as a performing asset in extremis, I'd still suggest GLD shares do not constitute ownership of gold. Perhaps even for the authorised participants in the worst case scenario?

Jun 1, 2012 - 6:23pm

Roll 'Em Up

This from Julian Phillips;

In the next month China and Japan (China’s main trading partner) will no longer use the U.S. dollar as the only currency in trade with each other. They will use the Yuan and the Yen directly with each other. This will see the dollar removed from a large chunk of the world’s trade –in itself, not a very large percentage, but a significant one. It’s the start of a trend that is set to grow. We’ve no doubt that China is tailoring its trade with all its trading partners to use the dollar only so far as it is required to deal with the U.S. and other dollar-dependent nations. Oil from Russia utilizes the Yuan and Rouble, and Australia has arranged a similar deal.

We're not Close, but We are Near....

There's more magic in the Bernank's Cookie Jar. Not because I wish there is some, but because he has a few more tricks and tools he can use to kick this can a little further down the road. I'm not sure that gold's movement today is indicative of anything really.... other than, as Turd points out, the Cartel moving from short to long positions. I expect many more days of huge moves in both directions because it will increasingly become hard to control, but it is "still" in their control. Oscillation is the new "normal" state and should become part of your working vocabulary for the next phase of this financial crisis.

Personally, I am glad to have more time to continue with my preparations... for as much as I work my plan... I have many miles to go before I sleep...

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village, though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there's some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening

The Bilderbergers are a steering committee who set the agenda. Period. It and its members are at the top of the food chain, among three of four other nefarious vampire squidish groups.

I have to admit, it was nice to see GOLD up nearly $70 today. I thought silver would end at its highs from watching its trend throughout the day. However, nothing is concrete. Looks like the Commercials have really added a great deal of shorts against the DOLLAR. Last week it was 15,000 more short contracts. This week another 9,000+

Again, the LARGE SPECS don't normally win out against the COMMERCIALS in the paper game. OF course this will end at some point in time.

It is going to be an interesting SUMMER. If we do have a complete DISINTEGRATION of the DERIVATIVES MONSTER... best to be in the physical metals and not in paper.

Lastly, we had a new record month high SILVER EAGLES SALES besides JAN in 2012:

2012 Silver Sales Totals
(in ounces / number of coins)
Month One
( oz. / #coins )
January 6,107,000
February 1,490,000
March 2,542,000
April 1,520,000
May 2,875,000
June 0
Total 14,534,000
