Downward Revisions

The string of downward revisions continues today with the latest durable goods report. Sure, the headline number looks great but the previous month was revised lower. At this point in the election cycle, is there any data series.. .any one. ..that isn't goosed for headlines and then sneakily revised lower at a later date?

And wouldn't it be fun if we could pull this stunt in real life?

  • My stated age is 58 but next month I'm going to revise it lower to 35.
  • The wedding for LT#1 last year was pretty expensive, so I just revised it lower by
  • ...
