Could the meetings last week in Sochi be the first step away from NATO/Russia confrontation? Let's hope so. Unfortunately, the Ukraine Crisis continues to simmer and events could still reach a boiling point again this summer.

This week's Batchelor-Cohen discussion was wide-ranging and extensive. John and Steve spent a lot of time discussing a new report from the US Army War College that suggests "competition and cooperation" as a way forward instead of confrontation. Sounds good to me. Let's hope things trend that way.

The guys also discuss the popular TFMR topics of Eurasian alliances and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. And the final segment is excellent. Please be sure to listen to it.

But all is not sunshine and lollipops just yet. The War Party is still itching for a fight as we continue to see stories such as this one: http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2015/05/17/new-putin-invasion-coming-this-summer.html  And articles such as this one give you a good idea of just how hostile things still are in Ukraine: http://www.bloombergview.com/articles/2015-05-19/nazis-triumph-over-communists-in-ukraine

Hope for the best but plan for the worst. Pray for peace but expect continued war.

This commodity could soon collapse: BofA analyst

It seems this BOFA analyst is betting on a strong dollar (despite eco weakness) and a subsequent plunge in silver prices (video): http://www.cnbc.com/id/102691954

Silver fell more than 3 percent Tuesday as a strong dollar put pressure on commodity prices across the board. And according to one top technician, the selloff is just a foreshadow of what could be a major correction for the white metal.

"If you look at the price action in silver from the start of the year, we've been in a very tight range and haven't been able to break any meaningful topside level," said technical analyst MacNeil Curry on CNBC's "Futures Now." Silver is up roughly 8 percent on the year, but still hasn't managed to reclaim its year-to-date high of $18.50 hit in mid-January. The metal is also down more than 20 percent from its 52-week high of $21.63 hit in July 2014. Silver settled at $17.09 on Tuesday.

Curry notes that the inverse relationship between precious metals and the dollar should have given silver prices a more significant boost as the greenback has fallen 7 percent from its high.

"The fact that it hasn't been able to make any kind of headway despite a weakening buck in the last two months speaks volumes to the fact that the path of least resistance is still significantly lower here," said Curry, head of global technical strategy at Bank of America Merrill Lynch

According to Curry, in the next few months silver could drop to levels not seen in more than five years. "Over the course of the next few weeks I expect silver to stay in this $15 to $17 range," he said. "But once this thing starts to roll to the downside again we could see a 13 handle, which would be the first time we've seen that since 2009." That's a more than 20 percent decline from current levels.

A move past $13 could open the flood gates for even steeper declines, said Curry. "Long term we could get as low as $10."

Added Curry, "Keep this on your radar screen, this could be an excellent shorting opportunity if it plays out according to plan."

In April, 2014, I had the happenstance of running into you on the streets of Vancouver. I was there to lecture to a group of medical professionals, while you were attending the TED talks. I expressed my appreciation to you for creating Wikipedia. I also then expressed concern to you about the "unencyclopedic" tone and information in Wikipedia's article on homeopathy. You then encouraged me to express my concerns in writing, and this is that response.

It may surprise and even shock most people to learn that, according to The Washington Post, the two most controversial subjects on Wikipedia in four leading languages (English, French, German and Spanish) are the articles on "Jesus Christ" and "Homeopathy."

Because I know that we all want Wikipedia to be the best modern resource of reliable information, my intent in writing is to show you where Wikipedia is falling below your high standards, and in fact, Wikipedia's article on homeopathy is providing strongly biased, inaccurate information. This strong bias is a symptom of a deeper problem at Wikipedia in select articles on topics that challenge dominant medical and scientific worldviews. After reading the below body of scientific evidence on the subject of homeopathic medicine, I hope that we can engage in a dialogue that will help reduce the amount of misinformation that pervades certain subjects, such as homeopathy.

Evidence of the strong bias against homeopathy and against an objective encyclopedic tone is evident throughout the article. I will first focus on the second sentence of the first paragraph of the article and the six references which purport to substantiate these claims:

Black Seed - 'The Remedy For Everything But Death'

Many of black cumin's traditionally ascribed health benefits have been thoroughly confirmed in the biomedical literature. In fact, since 1964, there have been 656 published,  peer-reviewed studies referencing it.

Black seed has been researched for very specific health conditions. Some of the most compelling applications include:

  • Type 2 Diabetes: Two grams of black seed a day resulted in reduced fasting glucose, decreased insulin resistance, increased beta-cell function, and reduced glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) in human subjects.[ii]
  • Helicobacter Pylori Infection: Black seeds possess clinically useful anti-H. pylori activity, comparable to triple eradication therapy.[iii]
  • Epilepsy: Black seeds were traditionally known to have anticonvulsive properties. A 2007 study with epileptic children, whose condition was refractory to conventional drug treatment, found that a water extract significantly reduced seizure activity.[iv]
  • High Blood pressure: The daily use of 100 and 200 mg of black seed extract, twice daily, for 2 months, was found to have a blood pressure-lowering effect in patients with mild hypertension.[v]
  • Asthma: Thymoquinone, one of the main active constituents within Nigella sativa (black cumin), is superior to the drug fluticasone in an animal model of asthma.[vi] Another study, this time in human subjects, found that boiled water extracts of black seed have relatively potent anti-asthmatic effect on asthmatic airways.[vii]
  • Acute tonsillopharyngitis: characterized by tonsil or pharyngeal inflammation (i.e. sore throat), mostly viral in origin, black seed capsules (in combination with Phyllanthus niruri) have been found to significantly alleviate throat pain, and reduce the need for pain-killers, in human subjects.[viii]
  • Chemical Weapons Injury: A randomized, placebo-controlled human study of chemical weapons injured patients found that boiled water extracts of black seed reduced respiratory symptoms, chest wheezing, and pulmonary function test values, as well as reduced the need for drug treatment.[ix]
  • Colon Cancer: Cell studies have found that black seed extract compares favorably to the chemoagent 5-fluoruracil in the suppression of colon cancer growth, but with a far higher safety profile.[x] Animal research has found that black seed oil has significant inhibitory effects against colon cancer in rats, without observable side effects.[xi]
  • MRSA: Black seed has anti-bacterial activity against clinical isolates of methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus.[xii]
  • Opiate Addiction/Withdrawal: A study on 35 opiate addicts found black seed as an effective therapy in long-term treatment of opioid dependence.[xiii]

A TURNING POINT? The turn was long ago!

Do any of us remember Maynard G. Krebs and the beatniks?:

I just could not relate to that lifestyle and then we had the  California Dreaming crowd, flower children and free love, a stand against the foundational truths of the Church and the nation.   Those are the people who have worked their way to the top of the government jobs in our country.

There are days when I go to our job sites and  see the destruction of our citizens.  If the Russians and Mexicans left the country, we would not have enough workers to build a good chicken coop.  How will that be restored?   What will happen when the millions more of college grads do when they cannot even get a job at the hamburger cafe?  Those jobs are also taken over by swimmers to our nation.  What will the old N.O.W. gang say when they are required to wear head coverings while in public?

The enemy has hated our moral stand in this nation from the beginning and he has done an effective job in detouring us from the very foundation of our calling to the world.  How will that be restored?   (Yes I do have answers but I really believe that it is to late).  jmo        Jim

I think the only thing I have ever read about manipulation that rang true was "you cannot manipulate a market in a direction it doesn't want to go."

I know that pisses a lot of people off, but think about it.  EVERY single commodity peaked and fell between 2007 and now.  Do you really think Uranium and silver are intertwined bt manipulation?  coal? lead, zinc?  I think those that deny manipulation are wrong because it DOES happen...however, silver was going down anyways....along with every commodity....

"oh, its a monetary metal and it is being driven down to deny this!"  Really?  What country uses silver as a monetary metal?

Don't get me wrong, I am 190% behind the idea of some standard taking the printing press away, but saying it is a monetary metal doesn't make it one.  Look, I have been brutally punished by this 4 plus year correction, on paper.....never touched my stack....so I have no "told ya so", in this....and what annoys me is the constant ripping on guys like "Hairy", aka Fleckenstein, who are constantly ridiculed because they downplay the effect of manipulation and therefore are wrong.  Really?  Fleck was constantly ridiculed in 1999 when he was moving into hard assets and started a short only hedge fund for general equities....oh how CNBC loved to taunt him.....in 2003, cashing in huge BANK, he closed the short fund.....genius?  THE problem with the constant "its the manipulators, its the manipulators" drone is that it may be more than that....like, "it is the market, AND its the manipulators."

Anyone that denies manipulation entirely is naive.  It has been convicted by the pseudo court of regulators with their "neither admission, nor denial" fines...joke......so it obviously happens....but if I gain 9 yards on the run and the official places the ball at 9 yards and 3 inches did I not run at all?

I agree that a decimated market, with the help of manipulation, destroys all investor interest....sure.  But it was going down anyways....maybe silver should be bottoming at $25, not $16...still a big haircut...

I don't care for Casey, not because of his manipulator denial, but because he is wrong and unwilling to admit it.  Frequently.  His Crisis Investing book was written at the BEGINNING of the biggest equity bull market ever...oops..

Rick Rule, Fleckenstein?  Right frequently, humble, and damn good.  Look at what they said and when they said it and measure that against those that scream about manipulation and their record....

yes, there is manipulation.  and yes, the market was correcting anyway.....

we have seen this in the equities market when naked shorting creates fictitious stock and it plummets....was going down anyway, but goes down several times more than it would have otherwise....

In the end, I suspect that the last 4 years are going to get erased.  Likely, abruptly.    Sinclair warned about it in 2011....don't trade on margin, you won't be able to survive the volatility...was the quote....and in that erasure, all the handwringing and emotion about market injustice, though true, will be recognized in price.

Market Manipulation Deniers are like every other ( ______)Denier.  Climate change, vaccines, whatever....they aren't denying all of it, they are just denying details of the argument....Big difference...devil is always in the detail.....but hey, it is tough to have detailed conversations with folks that want to summarize life into a headline.  It is so much more convenient to simply dismiss folks entirely, rather than spend the time and mental energy understanding them........take Russia and the Ukraine for instance...you can listen to Cohen and the complexity of the matter or you can listen to the neocons, Nuland, a holdover from W and be satisfied with "yer either for or agin..."  "a Hitler", or whatever bullshit soundbite satisfies your two braincells.

BTW, speaking of details...this Hitlary charade gets worse and worse..after reading the piece by ZH, read the piece about Sid Blumenthal, her advisor, her business associate, and her fund employee.....all on email which she was just serving USG email herself.....seriously.  just admit you are too stupid to vote if you are so convinced.  It is disgusting.  She should be tried, convicted, punished  for treason.    It is an act of treason to be so deliberately flippant with your total disregard for American security.

A most encouraging John Batchelor show ...

Thanks Turd, for posting this relatively upbeat John Batchelor show.  It was most encouraging to hear that Kerry (representing Washington one hopes) seems to be giving up on the aggressive approach to Russia via the Ukraine.  Might a WW3 have been avoided?

What I was especially pleased to hear is that Washington seems to now realise that a "New World Order" - with Washington running the show - is a non-starter.  And that our (The World's) best long-term option is to have a healthy tension (a sort of World democracy I suppose) between a number of nations - commencing with Russia, China, Germany, USA - and welcoming others into the fold by loosely aligning with whomever they (the rest of the Worlds nations) feel most affinity towards.  This is the way to a long-lasting World peace - by non-combative competition between a number of super-powers - each competing for trade with the rest of the World.

Utopia - no; but sounds good enough for me.  Needless to say, it would only work with a sound monetary system fully backed by gold / silver / cryptocurrency (I don't want to mention the word bitcoin for fear of being bashed down even harder than TPTB hammer down the (paper) gold and silver prices).

Boy, if that's not a Freudian slip in that article, I don't know what is. I'll be happy to buy all of that physical silver JPM got at higher prices that I can afford, if that's in fact the reason they accumulated it for (losing money).

I was never taught this?????

2. Owens said President Franklin D. Roosevelt, not Hitler, snubbed him.
In the immediate aftermath of the Berlin Games, a myth arose that Hitler, enraged at the triumph of an African American, refused to congratulate Owens on his victories because he failed to shake his hand. However, the press reported that the German leader gave the American sprinter a “friendly little Nazi salute,” and Owens said that the two exchanged congratulatory waves. In fact, it was the conduct of Roosevelt– who never invited Owens to the White House or acknowledged his triumphs–that disappointed the Olympic champion. “Hitler didn’t snub me—it was our president who snubbed me,” he said months after the Games. “The president didn’t even send me a telegram.”

What's changed?

So Kerry went to Sochi and made a comment that Ukraine shouldn't re-start the hostilities.  He didn't say anything about if Russia does (or, is perceived to re-start them).

But really, what's changed?

- The U.S. snubbed the 70th Anniversary Victory Day celebration in Moscow

- Sanctions are still in place

- The junta in Kiev is still 100% under U.S. control

- Kiev (this week) passed a law enabling it to not pay its debts...legally.  (if it smells like default and looks like default....)

- The US is still training the Ukrainian Armed Forces

- Realizing Minsk 2 is still impossible--it's an unachievable agreement.

- Poroshenko today also called for 100% Ukraine control of the border with Russia and complete withdrawal of Russian troops.  1.) Minsk 2 provides for some shared border responsibility AFTER Ukraine reforms its constitution (ie, not...gonna...happen.  EVA!)  2.) Russia "officially" denies it has troops in Ukraine.  So basically, "blah, blah. Information war, blah, blah."

The point is, a trend is not made by a single data point.  Let's see some confirmation elsewhere before we get too excited.

The bottom line is the U.S. and Russia have been (and still are) involved in a hybrid war on at least 4 fronts:

- Proxy war in Ukraine

- Proxy war in Syria

- Economic War

- Information/psychological War

Let's not get too excited just yet.

on the back of your buggy is broken and it could be dangerous."

"I thank thee," replied the Amish lady. "I shall have my husband repair it as soon as I return home."

"Also," said the officer, "I noticed one of your reins to your horse is wrapped around his testicles.

Some people might consider this cruelty to animals so you should have your husband check that too."

"Again I thank thee. I shall have my husband check this when I get home."

True to her word, when the Amish lady got home, she told her husband about the broken reflector.

He said he would put a new one on immediately.

"Also," said the Amish woman,  "the policeman said there was something wrong with the emergency brake."

An effective bugout bag!

Our grandparents understood many things before arriving at Ellis Island.  They learned that they would need to leave everything behind.  Their lives depended upon walking away from homes, farms, family, jobs, and everything else and many knowing if they were caught, death.

Do we think a seven day bag will place us in a great position, in that cave, on the mountain?   Nope!   My grandparents fled the Ukraine long ago but the family that held on to their hope of a peace in the old country are dead and gone.  Look at the Ukraine today.  There is an important understanding to have within as the days of trouble approach.      Jim
