Like many of you, I know what is coming. I can see all of the pieces of the puzzle but I don't quite have the knowledge and expertise needed to bring all of the pieces together into a clear picture. Jim Willie does.

In this podcast, Jim takes today's seemingly unrelated headlines of European sovereign debt, JPM hedging losses and paper gold price drops and ties them all together into a tidy little package that clearly shows where we are headed in the not-too-distant future.

I think it's safe to predict that you will greatly enjoy this podcast and rank it among the best we've had to date.

CA doo-doo

I see that the current California income tax rate is 9.3% for incomes over $47,000.  That is another good reason to move.  By adding an additional 3% to high earners, it will only have the effect of driving more producers to other states.  Their revenues have dropped because of their policies of the past.

All the stupid people in Sacramento just don't get it.  Those with the means will leave the state.  We left in May of '07 because we were tired of the idiot political policies, and tired of turning over a big chunk of  our income to a government that spent it like they thought we'd never complain.  Yeah, it was hard to leave family and friends.  But sometimes you just have to take a stand.

Hmmm.  I was going to make a snarky remark betting the state still funded the Arts Council.  Decided to look it up, and, yep, it's still there.  Great way to spend money during a crisis, right?  All the stupid liberals ruined California.  A pox on all of them.

Maple Leafs or American Eagles

Can someone tell me the difference between the two? Is one or the other a better value/deal. I noticed maples were sold out in a few online stores, whereas the eagles were plentiful, not sure if that is telling me something.

I hope everyone chimes in on your question. I was wondering the same thing.

I could see a liquidity crunch give us a better buy point. But bird in hand, and all that. Premiums seem low right now, TF yessays the COT, etc. is looking good, and if it's not a huge buy (and for me, it can't be), I'm thinking it might not be enough to make a big difference.

Maple's or eagles

The maple leaf's are 1 ounce of  .9999 fine or so while the eagle is .9167 fine (22k) so it's a personal preference, and might depend where you live.

Just got back from anotehr auction...

Just got back from an auction.  Stacked a little more 90% tonight.  I paid slightly above spot for Walking Liberty halves and Morgan Dollars.  Got common dates for the most part, but in great condition.  I normally don't buy any 90% stuff above spot (my goal is at least 10% below spot) but I've learned that if I didn't spend the cash on the coins it would just get spent elsewhere.

Brought my 10 year old daughter with me.  She bought an oil painting of horses in a farm field for $5, and she is exceedingly proud of herself.  It's now up on her wall.  But the greatest thing is she now understands the auctioneer (somewhat), she knows what an auction premium is, and she knows how to bid.  She wants to go next weekend, too.

Finally, the absolute score of the night was an ornate heavy weight (75 lbs)  cast aluminum estate style mailbox with a matching pole and concrete mounting kit, new in the package.  I can't believe nobody bid on it except for two of us - probably because we were out in the boonies.  Up it goes on Craigslist tomorrow for 10X-12X what I paid for it, and the buyer gets it for 30-40% off retail.   The profits will pay for the coins.

Have a great weekend!

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY LADIES

Yes today is a special day. We will have a large family gathering, lots of food, games, and fellowship.  We have much to be thankful for.  My mom passed on on mothers day week long ago .  Lets be thankful if your mom is with you today.  Here is my present to the moms:

Silver priced in AUD

Here is an interesting chart, silver priced in Australian dollars. We are a lot closer to the top of the channel than in the USD chart. Maybe we are closer to a breakout than most of us think, all we need is a small bounce off 28.50 and we are away.

stacking for kids

that is a typical mother-centered response.......which i completely understand, believe me.

i have a neighborhood full of overindulged, spoiled  children......allowance given for no help around the house......entitlements???.........cars while the dad rides a motorcycle.......

the destruction of the vertical command structure in the family unit has ensured this.

95% of the married men i know are nothing but a slab of meat and a paycheck.

one step out of line and they're on the couch........another and they are in an apartment but STILL making house payments.

seen it.

mom runs the show nowadays........and the effect is all the way to the 'nanny state'....which is the root of our currency problem.

why do you think its nicknamed 'the nanny state'?................

the 'mother instinct' .........as the primary operating paradigm for the family unit........... is as big a failure as socialism is.

****************************************************************************************************

in my house, the verticle command structure still rules, we don't have 'entitled' children.

i sold off some gold at 1900$ last year to myself start slowly 'reverse mortgaging' my MOTHER'S house to make up for her IRA, which is now depleted..........my kids will be supporting ME in twenty years........not the other way around.

THE KIDS ARE YOUNG, SMART, VIBRANT, ENERGETIC........they can and do earn their own money, just like i did......and now GIVE to my mom........not the KIDS.

standing on your own 2 feet is exactly that......standing on your own 2 feet.

thank god my mom didn't dangle a 'golden carrot' in front of me.

the more unearned money u get when u are young...........the less of an independent proud person you are.

there are MANY grandfathers currently rolling over in their graves.........the state of this planet is mostly due to emasculated men........aaaah the 'kinder- gentlier' mantra lets everyone off the hook........lossers at the ball field get the same trophy as the winners........there are NO LOSSERS in the 'new banking model'

no lossers.....no reason to win.......just stay on the couch........

Re: Making sense of it all

@cpnscarlet  Oh I remember, you are fully invested and have to liquidate gold/silver holdings for living expenses.  What professional traders teach that approach?

Even Santa tells his troops not to go all in and to avoid margin.  Even gold bulls Jim Rickards  and Peter Schiff tell people to limit their exposure to PMs to 15% of their total portfolio.  There is a guy named Stewart Thompson who has posted trading articles for years on 321gold.com and he constantly warns people not to go all in.

It is my belief that Santa will need to play psycho-therapist to the PM longs thru the end of summer.  I am not kidding about that role.  When silver retreats to the low $20's and gold to the $1,400's there are going to be a lot of nerve wracked longs reaching for razor blades, and so Santa will have a divine role to give them hope and maybe even save lives.  I fear that Santa might be overloaded with that task now.

Do not be mistaken.  I own physical gold and silver.  But I am not fully invested, never will be, and I've built-up more liquidity (now $110+K) to take advantage of further deterioration in PM prices.

And if you saw my monthly living expenses and depreciable assets, you would think I live in a card board box next to the freeway.  In other words, I "walk my talk".

boatman's picture

short squeeze

as i understand it, is a rapid rise to a price as sellers disappear, caused by new long positions initiated by the shorts, to balance their position.

shorters turned into longers by a price floor due to lack of sellers.

but i'll take anyone's explanation.

I think you underestimate the power women have always held.  It is the government and the banks that have turned women into tax-paying men.

A vertical power structure sounds dreadful.  Men and women have always been equals, properly understood.  Don't blame all this bullshit on strong-minded women.  We certainly didn't invent the Fed.

Usually we are in accord - I am sorry you are surrounded by wimpy men, but it ain't the ladies fault.  And I think helping your mum AND your kids is a fine concept.

Saturday Night Card Game (Blacklist gets blacklisted)

via The Daily Mail (Britain):

Police chiefs have banned the word ‘blacklist’ over fears it is racist.

They have also struck out its opposite – ‘whitelist’ – which is used by IT workers for a list of acceptable email contacts.

Scotland Yard employees have been told to use ‘red’ and ‘green’ instead.

The move baffled officers, who said it would do little to help the force emerge from its latest racism crisis.

Thirteen reports of racism, involving 27 officers and staff, are being probed by the Met and the independent police watchdog.

One officer said: ‘Frankly we all sigh when things like this come around. Lots of good work is done to make sure policing reaches into all parts of society and helps the most vulnerable. This is not it.’ …

The measure is part of a drive by police chiefs to stamp out racism within the force. But officers within the organisation are said to have described the latest orders as ‘bizarre’.

Anyone using the term “blacklist” will now be called an “illegal blacklister.”  No, can’t say that.

Will be deemed a black sheep of the police force.  Don’t go there.

Will enter a career black hole.  Aaaahhhh!

Will be accused of spouting gobbledygook.  No, that’s off limits.

Will be written up on disciplinary charges printed on white paper.   Damn, that’s off limits too.

Will be asked to rejigger their language.  Oh wait.

Will be reassigned to the secret, um, agent force.  Yeah, that’s the ticket, just make sure they use proper pronunciation.

People running the show would be better.  Men are stupid without women and women are weak without men - how's them for fighting words.
