Does it freak anyone else out

Does it freak anyone else out that this is a legal tender coin with a face value of twenty-five cents?

If that happened then I would insert one in my mouth as a bottom lip extender.

How  about a  Kennedy or Franklin,  half dollar 10 oz silver frisbee?

If you want one graded, I think it costs around $70 ea for PCGS

ATB

Pink,

The coins are nice and having seen both the bullion and the collector versions, I have to say I like the bullion versions better.  I think the mint screwed up or mixed the dies up when they minted the bullion and were stuck with the blasted die for the collector version.

With that said, I would go with the 2010 bullion version graded MS69DMPL by PCGS if I were to buy some.  With the grading cost, it is a crap shoot if you would get that grade submitting your own.  There were only 33,000 each of the 2010 and it is my understanding it was tough to get that grade.  You will have to pay $3,500+ for the set and it seems they are climbing.  There are some listed on eBay for 5,000+ but I don't think they will get that price (for now anyway).

I agree NO1Hunter that the bullion version is more appealing to the eye than the collectors' coin.  They are much more shiny and mirror (proof) like.  If the cost does not come down from the mint then I might not be collecting the uncirculated versions anymore.  $280 for 5 oz of silver is a bit steep, but with the rise in the silver spot price...  who knows  I'll probably buy it anyhow.   As for the grading... I'll pass, I think PCGS and NGC are a scam to take your money and inflate the OCD of the anal collectors.  hehe  I have never owned a slabbed coin.  I did check to see how much it would cost though.

For PCGS, If you send in regular service it's $30+$20+$18 = $68/coin (this probably shouldn't be done currently since modern orders are getting done faster than regular at the moment).

If you want them done quicker and send in express then it's $50+$20+$18 = $88/coin

Then on top of those per coin prices you add on the shipping both ways and the $8 handling fee per order. And add another $20/coin if you want TrueView photos

Anyway, check this out...  Someone received a Grand Canyon 'P' puck without the sandblasted finish.

http://forums.collectors.com/messageview.cfm?catid=26&threadid=823449

Will be looking to see how much this goes for.

Bought & Sold

Bought and sold within 10 minutes.  I will take the 12% profit now rather than waiting to see what happens later considering there was absolutely not issues ordering it.  Looks like the demand for it will be low.

Yeah, The website was not as slow as it was for Hot Springs.  Do you think they will push the 2011's out this year?  One per month?

2011-P Pucks

"Yeah, The website was not as slow as it was for Hot Springs.  Do you think they will push the 2011's out this year?  One per month?"

I think a couple of the 2011-P's will come out but I have my doubts all of them will make it by 12/31/11.

"Got my Chicasaw today... maaaaaaan is it gorgeous!!"

I bought 4 of them but haven't got them yet.  I can't wait!!!!!

I have sold all my P-Pucks and sticking with the bullion.

Just ordered some of the bullion coins.  Better price per ounce than bullion ASEs so I thought I'd stack a few.

pf - I don't understand your note from the mint.  The Gettysburg ATB coins were available some time ago.  Apmex had them bundled with the Glacier Natl Park a while back before they sold out:

Are they re-issuing the coin?

2 different versions

There are two different versions.  The bullion version which is made by the mint but only sold through AP's (Authorized Purchasers). The 2010's (bullion) were released in Dec. of 2010.  The 2011's (bullion)were released this year starting with the Gettysburg and Glacier set.  Then there is the 'Uncirculated Collectors coin' that is sold directly from the mint and have a 'P' (phiadelphia) mint mark on the face. The first one (P - puck) for 2010 was issued in May (Hot Springs) and one was released every month after. The difference between the two is the finish.   The bullion version is shiny and the collectors edition is vapor blasted to hide the defects (like scratches and machine wear acquired during the minting process) The bullion versions are also cheaper and the collectors edition has a lower mintage of just 27,000 for the 2010's compared to the bullion versions 33,000 for the 2010's. The mintages for the 2011 bullion versions are 126,000 and we have yet to see what the mintage will be for the 2011 collectors  (I call them P - Pucks) version.  Another difference is the price.  The bullion version is set by the spot price of silver.  The P - Pucks were all $279.95 + $4.95 for shipping = $285.  I am hoping, since the last two 2010's (Grand Canyon and Mt Hood)  have not sold out that they lower the mintage and the price for the 2011's.

Here is a link to the mints website.

IMOP, they may lower the price but at the same time increase the mintage.  Of course, this really depends on what silver prices do in the next month or two.  Look what happened to the proof ASEs.

Yeah, I hear ya Hunter, but a guy can dream...   The mint will probably raise the price lol  We should find out next week,  when the Gettysburg P-puck moves to the 'coming soon' page.     After reading Turd and some others,  it seems a price rise in silver is immanent and I will be getting some ATB Olympic's (bullion) for $1.99 over spot on Friday morn.
