Global X Silver Miners ETF SIL

At various points in time, I've owned many silver explorers and producers and I've been whipsawed more times than I can count.  I don't want too much money tied up in one company, and I want to be able to get in or out out of my position with one click.  The silver miners ETF (SIL) does all of that for me.  It even pays a nice dividend.  Honestly, this is the best gig in town.   I've listed SIL's holdings below, and you will notice that these are all quality holdings, and it includes producers as well as explorers.   Good luck to all.  Looking forward to end of the current down draft.

I see Excellon on there

They had a negative report done on them last week. I would sell that one if i owned it.

2011-10-06 12:17 ET - News Release

Mr. Ken Neumann of the United Steelworkers reports

STEELWORKERS ALERT EXCELLON RESOURCES SHAREHOLDERS TO COMPANY PRACTICES

The United Steelworkers (USW) has sent a letter to shareholders of Excellon Resources Inc. to highlight the company's poor corporate governance practices and dysfunctional labour relations.

The letter calls attention to the depressed earnings, despite high prices for silver at Excellon's Platosa mine, and is accompanied by an analysis of the company's corporate governance practices.

The letter refers to a report by Wright Investors' Services which states "the stock has performed terribly" and includes a comparison of Excellon with other smaller mining companies that shows consistent underperformance.

The USW cites a number corporate governance practices which it rates as poor, including:

Slate elections of directors by disallowing shareholder votes of individual board members;
Rreporting shareholder votes by a show of hands rather than by number of shares held;
Use of stock options rather than shares to compensate directors;
The lack of an independent chair of the board.

The USW also cites the company's troublesome labour relations, and points to continued efforts to break a democratic and independent union in Mexico, known as Los Mineros, with which the USW has a long and deep strategic relationship. It accuses the company of promoting a minority union with little worker support.

"Unless Excellon cleans up its corporate governance and recognizes the democratically chosen union, Los Mineros, as the only legitimate collective bargaining representative, we believe shareholders are at risk and could be harmed by imprudent decisions made by Excellon management," said Ken Neumann, the USW's Canadian director.

Included among the largest shareholders of Excellon, according to the latest information available, are Sprott Asset Management LP, Goodman and Co. Investment Counsel LTC, Luxor Asset Management Trust, Global X Management, Mavrix Fund Management, Dimensional Fund Advisors, Sutterluty Investment Management, and AGF Investments.

Mr. Neumann also stated that he is disappointed that Jeremy Wyeth, chief executive officer of Excellon, has not returned his phone call about the situation, and is concerned about potential for violence due to the company backing of a bogus union supported by only a few miners.

The USW letter and analysis of Excellon's corporate governance are available on request

Agree

Couldn't agree more.  Thanks for the list!.   I bought way up and now way down now but for those of you who haven't - this is a great time to buy.   Long term hold for me.

By the way, I agree with

By the way, I agree with Excellon - had it for a long time - finally gave up on it and never regretted it.

But SIL is still a great way to go - Don't throw the baby out with the bath water.

Taxes

Be careful of owning GDXJ and SIL.  Sometimes, if you hold this asset through December - it can throw off a lot of Short term gains that you did not expect on your taxes.

For instance - last year, GDXJ, threw 30% of NAV in the form of ST Cap Gains taxes.

AUN not the largest position.

The positions are listed in order of size.  Ind. Penoles constitutes 17% of the portfolio and is by far the largest position.
