IRA Money

I was wondering if anyone had some good advice on what I should do as far as investing/rolling over an existing IRA into a precious metals IRA. First off, is this something that I should even consider doing since there is a big trust issue here. How do I verify if they really are purchasing physical metals in my name and storing it somewhere until I retire. If it is a good idea are there any reputable companies out there worth doing this with. Or should just cash out, take the loss and buy physical? Thanks.
