Question about a rare 1oz gold maple leaf

I recently bought a 1 oz random year gold maple leaf coin and received a double dated 1999 2000 coin with a fireworks privy. I searched a lot online but couldn't find much info about this specific edition. Wikipedia talks about this edition in silver bullion, but not in gold. This lack of info about this supposedly millenium edition has me a little concerned. So to all you gold experts out there, is this a valid rare coin?

question for sandygold on "double dated CML"

What do you mean by "double dated"?

Can you please clarify?  Got a picture of the coin?

It shows both 1999 and 2000

It shows both 1999 and 2000 on the coin with "50 dollars' in between them.

Measure your coin's width and diameter

http://www.goldline.com/coins-silver-canadian-maple-leaf

The silver maple leaf coin is

FACE VALUE GROSS WEIGHT SILVER CONTENT COIN THICKNESS DIAMETER
$5 (Can) 31.1000g
1.000 troy oz.
31.072g
0.9999 troy oz.
0.117 in.
2.98mm
1.598 in
40.60mm

The gold maple leaf coin is

COIN SIZE FACE VALUE PURITY GROSS WEIGHT GOLD CONTENT DIAMETER COIN THICKNESS COIN EDGE
1-oz $50 99.99% (24 karat) 31.1030g 0.9989 oz. 30mm 2.73mm Reeded

Therefore, by measuring the diameter of your coin, you should see a 10 mm difference in the coin diameter.

Tell us what you see.

It is 30 mm in diameter

Thanks Strongsidejedi. It is 30 mm in diameter. I also have a 2006 gold coin and both the coins put together are same in width and diameter.

Here a reference to one that

Here a reference to one that I found. It sold on EBAY but they don't give the price. Seems that it may be rare.

Definitely the only reference out there

Thanks smcsmc, your link seems to be the only reference out there for this specific edition.

J&M Catalog Lists It

I can see it listed in the J&M Catalog with a mintage of only 35,769, so yes, it is quite rare. It's likely worth quite a higher premium than you paid for it :)
