"Schrodinger's cat" is a thought experiment coined by physicist Erwin Schrodinger to explain problem of observation in quantum mechanics. Recently, this thing has taken on a life of it's own, being referenced in pop-culture, TV, songs, and even recently on Zerohedge. 

It goes like this: He proposed a scenario with a cat in a sealed box, and a subatomic particle inside linked to a poison ... if the particle decays, it triggers the poison thus killing the cat, or it might not decay whereby the cat lives.  Schrodinger argued that the cat's life or death depended on the state of a subatomic particle, which is at any given moment a potentiality- could be decayed, or could not.  Thus, according to Schrödinger, the Copenhagen interpretation implies that the cat remains both alive and dead (to the universe outside the box) until the box is opened and you see for yourself. 

Quantum physicists think this is really significant, and revealing. They are smart dudes, so I take that into consideration.  But personally, I think it is a load of crap-  whether the particle has decayed or not is NOT dependent on the observer looking at it.  The cat is either alive, or it's dead. The particle decayed, or it didn't-  whether I am watching it or not is irrelevant.  At least that's what I think, but as I said they are smart dudes.

THE PRICE OF GOLD according to quantam physics.

Now follow me on this one. 

A tree, just like you are composed of atoms.  Atoms are composed of electrons, protons and neutrons.  But electrons DO NOT EXIST unless they are observed.  .  It only exists as a cloud of probability unitl it is looked at.   Now scientists can't explain it but they can prove it in a laboratory.  See the double slit experiment.   Which means that nothing exists in an absolute state of existence!!    If you can understand that, that means the price of gold, all the dynamics of the price of gold, manipulation, speculation, more sellers than buyers, exists as a result of the group consciousness forming a consensus reality around what constitutes the reality of the price of gold.   If nothing is absolute, that means the price of gold is not absolute or the dynamic process which influences the price of gold is not absolute but created as a result of how the group decides what's true.

How reality forms is known as the measurement problem in quantam physics.   Which simply says that all probabilies exist as a waveform.  Since the electron moves in and out of existence as a wave probability and the reality which ultimately comes into reality is only based on how the individual or the group collapses the wave function.  

Stop scratching your heads.  It ain't that hard.  If all this is true, that means, we as a collective have the power to determine the price of gold based on our collective belief system.  For the stronger believe system MUST come into reality despite what JP Morque decides to do in the morning.   However, it hasn't happened yet because as the quantam physicists tell us, that you can't focus on the problem set and expect anything else to exist other than what you expect to see.   Ya know the whole einstein thing about you can't solve a problem at the level in which it was created. 

So to collapse the wave function, you simply NOTICE the problem set.   Find a point in space that represents the solution.    Notice in a soft manner the relationship between those two points and LET GO.   The new resulting reality HAS TO BE different for now you've collapsed the wave function and have formed a new reality.  You've changed teh way you have observed.
