Happy or Terrible?
Let's hope for a "Happy Tuesday".
Just a few items for you to review. First, this great article from Alisdair Macleod which covers some of the same territory that Trader Dan plowed over the weekend. http://alasdairmacleod.blogspot.com/2012/07/managed-money-positions-on-us-futures.html
Speaking of Trader Dan, he was talking about the grains today: http://www.traderdannorcini.blogspot.com/2012/07/grain-index-approaching-2008-peak.html. And so was ZeroHedge: http://www.zerohedge.com/news/putting-corn-harvest-drought-and-flood-context
Santa's pal Eric has written an interesting piece where he discusses several of the CoT trends that we've been covering ad nauseam here. http://edegrootinsights.blogspot.ca/2012/07/this-major-fed-move-is-about-to-create.html
And the LIEbor scandal continues to grow. HEEHEEHAHA! Just for fun, here are two articles which mention two of the primary forces behind The Evil Empire, JPM and HBSC.

Lastly, one final bit of fun from FreedomFest. While I was strolling the floor on Thursday, I ran into Kerry Lutz of the Financial Survival Network. He asked if I could spare a few minutes and I gladly obliged. Here's the link to the 5-6 minute interview. http://financialsurvivalnetwork.com/2012/07/turd-ferguson-everyone-should-be-buying-precious-metals/
That's it for now. Regardless of paper price shenanigans, I hope you personally have a Happy Tuesday!

Thanks for the Rickards links. Running around today. Check back with them later.
Nok
Re the Norwegian 'Housing Bubble' - ignore that, it is a further reason to own their currency as they look likely to raise rates at some point between now and year end, in part to to dampen the 'housing bubble' down....this is especially sexy if you own norwegian corporates that use (wait for it, drum roll)....NIBOR as part of the coupon payment structure. Any rates move is reflected in your coupon payment. I don't see anyone suggesting the UK raise rates to stop johnny foreigner from buying overpriced London real estate....
Norway has a double digit current account surplus, a tiny population, extremely low unemployment and a $600bn valued sovereign wealth/pension fund. Sensible currency diversification indeed for those with a brain.
London Close
I seem to remember getting these huge London close dips and immediate bounces back when silver was heading for 50.
@ capnscarlet
You forgot...a guy who never misses an opportunity to appear on camera, no matter the inane reason:)
Enough of the fear mongering
You guys post more fear than strength. It's starting to sound less responsible and more like chicken little.
Here's some strength
For all you guys younger than 40, notice that the geopolitical instability that is a constant.
It is domestic tranquility that is wealth creating.
This is quite interesting

re gold tracking euro
Gold is back up in both euros and us dollars - so even though the euro is up on the usd, gold is still up relative to both the euro and the usd. I try to watch gold in usd and another currency, to remind me that the whole thing is like pools of water.
How much cash to have on hand.......
Thanks for the reply notmessenger, appreciate your time in formulating a thoughtful reply. Fortunately have food, water (several sources not dependent on electricity or 'controlled' sources) and climate control. Last piece of foreseeable puzzle to take care of for now.
BTW TF, what a great community you have created here. Thank you again for all of your efforts.
Name change - DNC wants to avoid BofA
It appears that the DNC does not want Obama to appear on national TV at Bank of America Stadium:
National Democrats have repeatedly touted their stand against taking corporate money for their convention in September, and so it was striking to see two emails from the DNC host committee referring to the Charlotte venue where President Obama will speak as "Panthers Stadium."
It's the place where the Panthers play, but it's actually called Bank of America stadium.
Rest of story - http://www.politico.com/blogs/burns-haberman/2012/07/welcome-to-panthers-stadium-129146.html
It is appropriate for Obama to appear at Panthers stadium since it is guarded by large black panthers:
Nice FUBM or maybe that
Nice FUBM or maybe that should be FUBB forming.
@Strongsidejedi
I'm with you. Now we are designing the future after the collapse of the current false paradigm. tmosley outlined many viable and suppressed technologies that will help free humanity:

On that topic, I was in Reno a few years ago and went to the National Auto Museum. There was an old carburetor that claimed to allow a car 100 miles / gallon. Guess who held the patent? Shell Oil. Hmmm......why could this be? Let's see: efficient use of oil = less oil to be pumped = less money for shell oil et al. = less money for middle east oil wars = less money for the MIC = less money lent by/interest paid to the Fed/banks = good for the common productive man = bad
If people only knew.....

100 mpg carburetor
If it was an "old" carburetor, any patent would be expired and anyone could use the technology. Patents are good for 17 or 20 years depending on what date they were filed. So if this thing really works sounds like a great business opportunity for someone.

i checked out this video. this whole tie between china and washington d.c. makes alot of sense.
keep stacking
Patent Renewal
Patents, once they are issued, also have to be renewed thrice at ever more costly levels. Even if a patent is obtained, you have to renew it at the 3.5, 7.5, and 11.5 year points, and if you don't it expires. I don't know how you tell if the holder paid the fees.

@Keg
Maybe it's still there. Any mechanical engineers, take a road trip. See if you can visibly tell why it is so efficient. I'm not qualified. Maybe someone can get lucky and find the blueprints. Hopefully the inventor hasn't been suicided.
Wish I would have understood the gravity of exactly what I was looking at at the time.
xty- good to see you back!
Missed your smart, look-to-the-bright-side commentary.
@Keg
If you calculate the heat energy in a gallon of gasoline, and use realistic values for Otto cycle (or Diesel for that matter) engine efficiency, you'll find that 200 MPG is impossible. It requires about 1 kW to move a car at 50 MPH, and the energy expended goes up with the square of the speed. The most efficient 50 cc scooters get maybe 125 MPG, but they usually top out at 35 MPH. If you had a smooth tear-drop running on 120 psi bicycle tires, the aerodynamics might allow you to get 200 MPG at highway speeds (provided you didn't use the A/C).
There are a coupld of good explanations on the web.
Obama's Business Comment
I'm sure it's been discussed already, but regarding his statement:
There are a lot of wealthy, successful Americans who agree with me — because they want to give something back. They know they didn’t — look, if you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own. You didn’t get there on your own. I’m always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so smart. There are a lot of smart people out there. It must be because I worked harder than everybody else. Let me tell you something — there are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there.
.........
If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business — you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen. The Internet didn’t get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet.

Some good price action I see in Silver
For the last several days, instead of dives down and clawing up, I see rockets up and skidding down. Good buying happening.
@Optics
It's trivial but do you know the weight of the car from your example. I can't remember reading anything about it on my example. For all I know, the carburetor was used in a 800 lb, 1-seater going 35 mph.
Opticsguy:You can get higher
Opticsguy:
You can get higher efficiencies than that, you just need the correct operating conditions. Reduce the air friction and you will find that maintaining 50MPH costs less than 1kw (or whatever the actual figure is) because almost all of the energy drain is coming from fighting air resistance, as you noted. It is entirely possible that someone will come up with a metamaterial that works on air, reducing effective air resistance to zero. Such designs already exist for making islands invisible to ocean waves and even light (at certain wavelengths, they are working on the out and out invisibility cloak too).
Edit: late night last night. Didn't realize he was talking about a carburetor. Nevermind.
Arpaio News Conference at 4:30 ET Today?
Long popcorn.
Keg and Dag !
I never did believe those conspiracies of the 100 mph carburetor being shelved ! We still haven't seen good fotos of UFOs .... even though millions have digital cameras at the ready .... and I still haven't seen Consumer Reports road test one of the enigmatic vaporizers ! No money in it now .... everything is fuel injection .... maybe they could use the technology to make a better bong or huka ? If something really works .... there's money to be made ! Probably not worded as well
Probably not worded as well as it could have been. It is pretty obvious from the lead-up that he was trying to say that .... If you’ve got a business — you didn’t build that totally on your own. Unseen others helped make that happen.
And if that was his intended meaning, he is correct. If you did not roads to take your product to market, or schools to educate employees, or parents to raise kids, or electricity being invented, or a banking system, or the internet, it is pretty tough to build a business .... We live in a society that benefits from the efforts and contributions of many. To ignore these and say you did everything totally on your own is pretty darn selfish, wrong, and ignorant.
You pay taxes in part as a way of sharing with all those in society that are also helping to build the economy and the society, or don't have the ability to contribute more, or need some help along the way. I don't mind paying taxes, but like most I don't want to see my money wasted by spending on ridiculous things (like a massive military, or corporate welfare).
outrage at reason?
Your sense of outrage towards Obama's recent discussion re: businesses needing public infrastructure to thrive seems to be misplaced, imo. In my view, there is absolutely nothing wrong with anything he said, and
Here’s the full context of what he said:
Oh please, he meant exactly
Oh please, he meant exactly what he said. That us business owners lied/cheated/stole our way to riches. That its not fair they don't have the same things that we stole from them. Please spare me we are all in this together BS. If it wasn't for my taxes, those roads wouldn't be rebuilt every 2 years. If it wasn't for me paying my taxes, those lazy public workers wouldn't have jobs, if it wasn't for me paying my property taxes, those schools wouldn't have the money to stay open, if it wasn't for me risking everything I FREAKING OWN to start MY OWN BUSINESS BY MYSELF, you socialist scum would have less money steal.
God help us.
