Rickards

I have commented on this before.  I just watched that latest video and my feelings are the same.  GL I think you are right to watch him like a hawk, but I can't shake off his background or, more importantly, the certainty with which he speaks.  It is not normal for market watchers/investors to come across in the 'The fed wants to...' or 'we are going to ' way.....it smacks of something extra/scary degree of conviction.  Either way he merits close attention and I cannot deny he seems to building a good track record for predicting policy moves and timing.

Tabbs - corn dog

I was wondering too, but I think the pic tells the story. It looks like a yummy frankfurter sausage made form mechanically recovered meat, coated with a  yummy GM corn mix with trans fats, deep fried in more healthy long life processed oil.

In fact so healthy, they should be sponsoring the Olympics.

Our US friends are sure to correct me, but that's my guess without googling.

@ GM / GL More Rickards

On May 31st I listened to an hour long webinar from him. Here is what I posted after. Check out number 6 and 7 in bold. This is his nominal gdp theory. Once again he does not waiver from his predictions as time goes on. He only repeats and reinforces his statements.

    More Rickard's by murphy

    4 weeks 1 day ago

As GL has stated many times recently this guy, for whatever reason has gotten more right than most. I was thinking about his recent remarks.

    1) nothing happens in Europe to after Greek elections.  Greece will not leave the Euro. Btw, he said Greek fears will be over on 6/17. check

    2) Europe still has cards to play. ECB will cut rates June/July. check

    3) Fed will do nothing at June meeting. They will wait for August/September. I think Kreiger recently wrote the Fed doesn't need to goose the economy for the fourth of July, they need it Labor Day going into election. It also seems to make sense to me, that last year Labor Day marked the top as you may recall. Maybe this year the opposite will be true and that's where the metals and the markets take off due to QE3. check

    4) He said  the economy in 2012 will be a repeat of 2010/11. Year started strong and then weakens. check

    5) Some here have made mention of the new BIS rules change that will include gold as a Tier 1 asset. Rickards flatly came out and said it wont happen until 2017 and that will not be the reason for golds future price/move. Once again he speaks in absolutes (very interesting).

    6) A big part of his talk was about the 3 historical currency wars that have/are taking place. I think a lot of it follows his book. CW #1 was from 1924 to 1941. CW #2 was from 1967 to 1987 and CW #3 started in 2010 and he thinks it will last 5 to 15 years.

The key to #3 he said was in Obama's State of the Union Speech 2010. He said that the US would double it's exports in five years, called the National Export Initiative. How can US do that while it's manufacturing base has shrunk so much?

Not sure if the rest will translate:

    GDP= C + I + G + ( exports-imports)

C is weak, I is weak and G was huge in 2009/10. Now we have none. No new big debt (qe3) equals no growth.

    7) So there are two ways to get growth. MV=PY

    Money supply x velocity = inflation/deflation x real growth

Since velocity is dropping like a stone, the only way to get the result is to increase the inflation. They may not want to do it that way, but they will accept it if it is their only alternative.

So, they can get to their 5 year growth initiative by doing it two ways

    a) The preferred method of 1 part inflation and 4 parts growth or

    b) The way they have to accept of 4 parts inflation and 1 part growth.

    8) He also said the Euro solution in five years would be that the labor costs go down drastically in all the weaker peripheral states while Germany will tolerate more inflation in labor, etc.

Seems like he has an exact time line drawn. How do he knowenlightened?

In conclusion. Besides the fact that he has been on point more than most, the way he delivers the info with such certitude really gets my spidy sense up. Bueller, anyone?

    and another post

Thanks for posting that, I had not seen it. I agree with you and Zman. TPTB have proved time and again they can change the rules, move the goal posts and do much of anything and the masses are willing to go along. If Rickards says SDR's, I'm going along with him. They can drag this out for a long time. He has said prior, this current currency war will not end until sometime between 2015 to 2020.

last - another statement I picked up from him

The concept of "rent takers". This is a much stronger political statement than I can recall he has made before. The dems moving away from the unions and the repubs away from the banks.

Do you think this may have something to do with the new bank investigations?

@murphy

ahh. thanks. he's been right and don' t know why he says things so confidentially.  I've asked him if he has the word. he said no..it's good analysis, that's the difference. re the SDRs, he's not sure if it will go that route or the gold route.  net-net if i listend to him and waited i would have been deploying a lot more cash now then before.  o well...

the point is..you have to be careful who you listen too..they may have it right but timing could really mess things up.  he's called them right. it could be very simple as many these people in the govt are telling us what is going to happen, but many just don't speak their language.

Feet on the street news

Well went shopping to our local town today to restock the fridge and there were gold and silver 'recycle, valuations and cash paid' signs on every second lamp-post throughout the town for tomorrow at a pub in said town.  Kinda tempted to go down and see how many people show up with their Ratner's & Argos jewellery (it's a London overspill town so pretty chavvy)

Seen these stands in bigger towns around me but this is a first for this small town - smacks of people getting desperate to sell for fiat and for suppliers looking for stuff to smelt.

Corn Dogs

"a yummy frankfurter sausage made form mechanically recovered meat, coated with a  yummy GM corn mix with trans fats, deep fried in more healthy long life processed oil."

Excalibur, you pretty much have it, but you missed a few of the finer points: the frankfurters (aka weenies), are processed. Good ones for the gourmand corn doggers would be of the all-beef, Boar's Head brand variety. But most are ground up pig lips and other indescribable meat products that nobody wants.

Take one of the above, skewer it long ways with a wooden stick, dip in corn meal batter, fry in choice of oil. Mmm... good. Dip that in a big pile of catsup and mustard and you have a real American treat. I have a corn dog at least once a year whether I need one or not.

Now, conversely, you've made me crave some fish & chips or cockles and beers. Or maybe some Stilton, crusty bread, walnuts, grapes and a nice Tawny Port. Decisions decisions... :)

Home grown 'maters

Pining... Nothing like'em. Nothing on earth.

Home grown anything is better than store bought, particularly the GMO stuff that, if that were not enough, picked too early to ripen in a box and oft times colored to look pretty.

Thanks Larry

Thanks for the extra detail. I like to get it right.

Hey what do think about my double dupe, or qupe? A first? This intermittent signal from the Scottish hills has a lot to answer for. I have even resorted to a little TV. Though I did watch a wonderful wildlife program about the interconnectedness of diverse lifeforms. Like, how a chunky snail in Brazil allows the giant otter and cayman to flourish in very large numbers. Oh, and the biggest anaconda in the world. (I knew there was a Turd connection).

Let's see if I can get  a single post. Save!

Wow, crazy day or what?

Ok, most of that probably is on my home front.  Haven't even read Main yet today.  Probably won't.  Did a quick comments search of some key names, and I don't like what I'm seeing.

Still, who's going to buy me a drink in this one horse town?

Cliff Notes

Anybody got a Cliff Notes version of Main today.  Can I copy your notes?

Don't make me go out there.  The thought just makes me throw up.

Crank this one up. The youtube has particularly good volume on it.

working and PO'd

read a few posts in between jobs and got PO'd about someone talking poorly about one of the few things I know about.

Anyone - if you're not busy I could use "one bourbon, one scotch and one beer". Searching for video's on this i-thingee is tough. It's close to the real thing as I'm gonna get tonight. T&L's finally arrived with a vengence.
