Absolutely ridiculous and comical nonsense. NO ONE should be attempting to trade gold and/or silver futures on the Comex. The WOPRs and The Cartel are completely in charge and every mutterance and headline sends a cascade of HFT orders based solely upon phraseology and syntax. THIS IS MADNESS! In the end, the fiat price of true money is left to shift in the wind, regardless of the underlying fundamentals. Therefore, THE ONLY ONES WITH A CHANCE are the regulars in Andy's Army. EVERYONE ELSE must avoid day trading at all costs. THE ONLY OPTION is to buy physical metal on paper metal dips and TAKE DELIVERY.

Have a nice weekend. TF

Wow! Yep, you know then. Makes your skin crawl. Itchy/tingly.

I've seen a big panel box blow with the pull of a switch and I've seen and worked right next to a small (and quite loud) hydrogen explosion at a chemical plant, I've been evacuated from some plants from fire or explosion pre-cautions, splashed with acid while messing with pipes, burned and singed at times  but it was always the high voltages and working around them that made me wary. It was the 'potential' that always had my attention.

Extremely high-pressurized objects were my other real concern. No shortage of things to be aware of in 'the field'.

I've been in some cool job situations and just day-dreamed and reflected back on some of them smiley

I've worked with some great guys and supremely skilled craftsman who showed me their accumulated life's knowledge and 'tricks' and took me under their wing early on as a young apprentice. I can honestly say that I really  miss that line of work and most of those men.

High voltage

Saratoga P,

345KV   Wow... Seriously, I didn't know we had voltages that high. I thought it was only 12.8 right out of a powerhouse and stepped down from there.

Indigo...I used to weld a bit, never got certified. I think it will be a nice trade in the new economy. I had thought of buying a small welding machine for my preparation efforts.

Just wanted to take a second

Just wanted to take a second out of the Turd and America bashing and thank Turd for all he does.  I lurked on blogspot and signed up here day 1 (or maybe 2).  I have learned a ton and keep on learning.  Thanks for all you do.

Awww c'mon folks...

Can't we just be friendly?

For some reason, today's been a crabby day. Enough of the Us/Them stuff. I saw where it started out this a.m. and I'm surprised it got carried around as long as it has. Every here on this side of the ocean aren't knuckleheads and everyone on that side isn't either. Agreed?

But we all are Turdites and on here for other reasons other then each others throats. Right?

Peace...Timeout....take a chill pill or maybe go to The SpeakEasy and have a cold one. Divide and conquer from within isn't helpful. It doesn't have to be so.

Do I have to start a diversionary subject.....like what the heck is going on with the USD right now especially after China announced (loudly) they were going to double the currency trading band  of the yuan?

Shouldn't the USD get weaker from a stronger Yuan, even if it's only a potential thing at this point?

345Kv

Those big towers you see usually running next to highways are usually 345Kv, 230Kv or 115Kv lines. Out of the generating station, stepped up by a transformer in the yard, to the switchyard in your neighborhood, stepped back down to the 15Kv range, down the street to the pole top transformer in front of your house to be stepped down to the 120/240.

I've 30 years in the field, everything from reading the meter at your house, operator at the generating station (talk about high pressure..1500PSI of 1000 degree steam), System Operator (the rolling blackout guy), switchman, lineman and janitor. Being in the field is the best!  Dangerous, but the wife has the GPS coordinates to my favorite ice fishing spot where that unfortunate accident occurred. She just has to watch out for Champ.

You got that last part right. A welding machine would be a nice little set-up to have around for many things. And not just for the prepping part, but that would be a handy skill and ability to have in that scenario as well.

I would probably have a basic set up for SMAW (shielded metal arc welding/ for everyone else) for regular carbon steel and then a TIG set-up for cleaner things. Mostly stainless.

I had most of the certs out there except aluminum. Not that I wanted it either. Messy and crude stuff.  My nuclear one was my highest and that's what I was working on last. Last job I worked on was via a subcontractor for the Dept of Energy/Hanford WA work being done there. Yucca Mtn. related.

Conviction for theft of HFT Software from Goldman Overturned

One thief gets ripped off by another thief.  Pity that.

Read about it here.

Opening lines ...

Before leaving Goldman Sachs to earn a millionaire’s salary with Chicago High Frequency Trading (HFT) startup Teza Technologies, Sergey Aleynikov made one last transaction. At 5:20pm on his last day, just before his going-away party, Aleynikov uploaded 500,000 lines of encrypted source code from the Wall Street firm’s proprietary HFT system to a server located in Germany. Following the clandestine upload, Aleynikov deleted the encryption program, wiped his command history, and headed to the party.

Although Aleynikov later managed to download the source code to his home computer in New Jersey before flying to Chicago, he was apprehended by the FBI while returning through Newark Liberty International Airport.

But after his conviction at trial and imprisonment during the appeals process (his dual US-Russian citizenship presented a flight risk), Aleynikov is now a free man.

The reasons why touch the entire software industry.

Turd,

you've got lots of followers and admirers, some of whom are active in expressing their opinions, most of whom (due to more important things like family) check in when they can.   Pity that the detractors are often the vocal ones, but that's life.

Wow, I missed the party here

Wow, I missed the party here this weekend, didn't I?

I see that both metals are down upon Globex opening. I guess that is what happens when the woes of the world get fixed over the weekend.

I would think that we will see continued $USD strength this week as the Eurozone (Spain in particular) tips it's hand to show just how weak it is. That's bad near-term for gold and silver.

DJ, Indigo and

DJ, Indigo and Saratoga,... Glad to here about the stories of past jobs in the skilled trades. I'm currently (pun intended) on a wire pull 2000' long with (6) 500 mcm high voltage cables from a sub station to another distribution center at a refinery.  They picked a spot in the middle and will splice them there...fantastic work I say. Glad to be back working . Stay safe and keep stacking.

Housing prisoners in your own house to make the mortgage!

http://www.dailynews.com/news/ci_20393747/back-chain-gang-west-hills

"In fact, the suburban prison is not only a tongue-in-cheek publicity stunt to make a statement about families on hard times.

It's a ploy to help sell a Hollywood script, "Little Big House." Where desperate times call for desperate measures. Where a down-on-their-luck San Fernando Valley family turns to housing state prisoners to save their home. "

US Mint sales of ASEs - first quarter 2012 - DOWN

Has anyone made a comment about the US Mint sales numbers?

For the first quarter sales of ASEs in 2011 were 12.43M

For the first quarter the are 10.14M.  This is a drop of 18.4%.

In fact US Mint sales are down each month y/o/y.

http://www.usmint.gov/mint_programs/american_eagles/?action=sales&year=2012

I find this rather sad because nothing is better about the world in the past year. But I would explain it as the natural tendency to get excited when the price is rising and buy - and not buy when things look gloomy and price is stagnant or down.  Most people will buy the peak and ignore the dip.  Human nature.

The fundamentals are the long term driving forces - FUNDAMENTALS ARE VERY POSITIVE FOR THE PRECIOUS METALS.

My .02 - Everyone needs to manage their psychology - don't take risks you cannot handle emotionally if your guess turns out to be wrong in the shorter run.  This means - keep stacking and prepping.

Thanks for doing all you do Turd.

Keep moving forward, Turd - I see those naysaying posters (the ones that leave, but keep coming back like a rash), the ones that make smart-ass remarks about Turd being a hypocrite and your measly few thousand bucks that you got back from MFing Global, then promptly lost in the futures market - whatever.

Turd gets noticed at 24hr. Gold

Hey Turd,

Don't know if this is mentioned up thread, I do not have the time to read through the 300+ comments. Article at 24 hr. Gold is not a glowing review but indication that TPBT have taken notice and are working to counter and defend their comfy positions.  The use of buzzwords like "cult leader and hedge fund buddies" is pretty much an indication of where the author is coming from.  The author knows perfectly well who Mr. Maguire is and why he is organizing but urges us to sit back and take the anal rape that is price manipulation beyond any reasonable parameters.

http://www.24hgold.com/english/news-gold-silver-turds--gladiators.aspx?a...

Silver still on sale.  Stack on.

PS.  Bridgeport operator 50 hrs. a week.  Far cry from a cult member.
