Time For Another Hat Contest

With all that's going on in the world...from China to Ukraine to disinflation bias to the next FOMC meeting...what a perfect time for another Turdville Hat Contest!

The September FOMC meeting is Wed-Thu the 16th and 17th of September. The Fedlines that might contain a "September rate hike" will be released at 2:00 pm EDT on September 17. So, your entry in this contest is:

  1. The Comex closing price of the Dec15 gold on Friday, September 18
  2. The Comex closing price of the Dec15 silver on Friday, September 18
  3. Tiebreaker: The NYSE closing level of the HUI index on Friday, September 18

In each category, there will be two winners. In gold, first place is a TFMR silver round and second place is an autographed Turd Hat. In silver, same deal.

So, have at it. Please use this thread to submit your guesses and be sure to include your tiebreak answer. I'll close this thread to new entries tomorrow at 7:00 pm EDT.

GOOD LUCK!! (You're going to need it...)

China and Swiss Refining

I'm going to hold off on any predictions for the moment and think about it. But I just listened to your interview with Elijah Johnson at Finance and Liberty and you mentioned something that I have heard as well. That China is taking delivery of LBMA London good delivery bars and having them refined into kilo bars and shipped off to China never to return. I believe Alasdair Macleaod has mentioned this as well. But does anybody have an article from a reputable source that says this is true ? I've heard it here and in other locations but I've never seen anything written about it. Only spoken about it. Anyone ?

This has been going on for quite some time and it continues to this day.

Here's the link from when I first reported on it: http://www.tfmetalsreport.com/blog/3924/gonefor-good

And here's Koos with an interview of Alex Stanczyk, who states that:

"We met with the managing director of the largest refinery in Switzerland and spend about two hours talking to him, we learned some very interesting things. Whats going on in the gold market as far as the price, is I think very counter intuitive. Everybody understands, knows and believes the price should be higher than it is, but it isn’t. There’s confusion in the marketplace, and there are two reactions; the reaction in the west is fear, confusion and uncertainty; the reaction in the east is buying. Now, this gentleman we were talking to probably has a better idea of physical gold flow than anybody else globally. He sees what is coming from the mines, he sees what is coming from the UK, and all over the world, as well as where its going. He indicated the price didn’t make sense because he has got so much fabrication demand. They put on three shifts, they’re working 24 hours a day, and originally he thought that would wind down at some point. Well, they’ve been doing it all year. Every time he thinks its going to slow down, he gets more orders, more orders, more orders. They have expanded the plant to where it almost doubles their capacity. 70 % of their kilobar fabrication is going to China, at apace of 10 tons a week. That’s from one refinery, now remember there are 4 of these big ones [refineries] in Switzerland."

Thanks Turd

I read that Koos Jansen article back in 2013 as well. I'm not saying it's right or wrong. But I will say I have less respect for Jim Rickards mug now than I did back in 2013. Thanks.
