Important Week Ahead

I interrupt my regularly scheduled article  to bring you more late breaking news.   I'll save my historical treatise for another date as everyone seems focused on the events in Syria and whether or not the Fed will continue QE.  No sense in fighting the news trend and since many of you are already talking about it, I  might as well dedicate this Sunday Evening/Monday Morning post thread to Syria and QE3.

Last week was a pretty intense week with accusations that the administration is committing war crimes, a 100 point plunge in the Dow on Friday morning, and Crude getting a boost on Syria.    The Syrian situation is giving a rise to saber-rattling between the US and Russia that we haven't seen since the Cold War of the 1950's and the Gulf of Tonkin.   As we learned on Friday courtesy of Jim Comiskey, Russia is sending military ships to the Syrian coast

http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2013-09-04/news/sns-rt-us-syria-crisis-russia-ship-20130904_1_thomas-grove-interfax-foreign-minister-sergei-lavrov

Will Russia consider a strike against Syria an international violation and act of War against the Russians?

In case you haven't seen it, on Sunday Russia issued a 100 page report saying that the Syrian rebels are behind the Sarin Gas attacks and that John Kerry and the US are liars.

http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2013/09/05/russia-delivers-report-to-u-n-saying-syrian-rebels-behind-sarin-gas-attack-in-march/

"The Russian statement warned the United States and its allies not to conduct a military strike against Syria until the United Nations had completed a similarly detailed scientific study into the Aug. 21 attack. It warned that what it called the current “hysteria” about a possible military strike in the West was similar to the false claims and poor intelligence that preceded the United States invasion of Iraq."

What I'd like for you to keep in mind about Syria is that Israel has invaded Syrian airspace 3 or 4 times this year and struck surgical targets including anti ship cruise missiles.  No fuss was made by US media or much discussion about it in the alternative media.    Russia also has already been sending anti-ship and anti-air craft missiles to Syria, and reports indicated that they have been sending in technical experts to set up the system.

http://michaelsnyder.mensnewsdaily.com/2013/09/russia-has-equipped-syria-with-their-most-advanced-anti-ship-missiles/

So with on going missile attacks between Israel and Syria, continued Russian involvement in the region, why has the threat of a garden variety missile strike by the US become an international incident?  Has what has already been going on reached a peak?  Or is there a reason the US media wants us focused on this event?

Taper Talk

As most of you have heard by now Friday's nonfarm payroll report showed that while the economy created 169,000 new jobs, the numbers were below expectations and represented a continued drop in labor participation.  Remember, the Fed has said that it is decisions regarding taper was predicated on improving unemployment.

Whether or not the Fed tapers , the threat of tapering will certainly continue to build up and any fall in the major stock indices or the metals will surely be attributed to the anticipation of the Fed tapering and it's possible impact on economic activity.  As many you  have noted, as well as most metal analysts, a taper would have disastrous effects on the economy.   In addition, all that money that is sitting in the bank reserves is unlikely to get lent out thereby reducing reserves and threatening bank contagion, and a very inflationary situation that the Fed would find unacceptable.

As I mentioned in a previous article, the Fed has focused it's monetary policy specifically on mortgage backed securities as a swap where the reserves mostly remain with the banks.    I suggested that the mantra QE to infinity does not address the ways in which the Fed could begin influencing other area's of the economy if it decided to lessen the amount of MBS it buys.  Also the anticipation of what the Fed will do is occurring as the prospective new Fed chairman, Larry Summers, is going through his selection process.   Larry Summer's has said that QE3 has had virtual no effect positively or negatively on the economy.

Finally, a lighter piece of news announcing the new Obama Presidential Library....it's an outhouse.  It has stirred a bit of controversy in this small New Mexico town.

Obama’s full-court press on Syria:

Confidence or desperation?

Pushing his case for a US military response to chemical weapons in Syria, President Obama will do six TV interviews Monday. Other senior administration officials are flooding the airwaves as well.

On Syria and chemical weapons, President Obama has launched a full-court political press rarely seen in Washington.

What is a "garden variety

What is a "garden variety missile strike"?

Is that where the missiles sprinkle flowers and zucchini?

It's getting so that even the most ardent and clueless watchers of CNN and Fox are not convinced by Milhous' lies.

Did the Syrian government really do the deed? I'm not convinced at all.

@GL good summary

The media priorities and messaging is directly related to the need for Congress to extend the US debt ceiling and name a new Federal Reserve chairman.

Obviously, Obama doesn't trust Larry Summers.  Recall that Summers is a Clinton camp person.  The schism in the Democratic Party has been between Clintonistas and Obamabackers.  Obama is attempting to write his own legacy and is casting Joe Biden into the role the President wants.  Clinton is out.

Benghazi is related GL.

Just finished listening to

Just finished listening to the Jim Willie rant posted on the other thread.
This one:

It's all about stopping the pipeline and Gazprom. Some of the things that JW has said sound wildly speculative or maybe just products of a fevered imagination. But this has the ring of truth. Pepe Escobar talks about "Pipelineistan" as well.

The big oil and gas companies must have the vapors over this Gazprom pipeline.

Wiki with stinging summary of Syrian chemical weapons story

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Syria_and_weapons_of_mass_destruction#Chemical_Weapons

Over the past year, the Russians appear to have lied to the White House and the Obama camp took the bait while John Kerry was rolling into the Sec of State position.  Hillary left us high and dry again...normal behavior of her camp to only think about her PR position and not the outcome of leaving our nation in a diplomatic quandry.

Not only is Benghazi dragging Clinton down, but now so is Syria.  The Syrian regime used chemical weapons on multiple occasions over the past year with the Obama-Clinton team denying that it happened (due to reassurances from the Russians).  Now, it turns out that the Russians were wrong and that the Israeli's bombing the Syrian chemical "research facility" was correct.  The Syrians were synthesizing the nerve gas components, stocking them on trucks for synthesis and mixing in those trucks during deployment.

The only question is whether or not Syrian rebels go a hold of the trucks and chemical agents or not.  Russia and Syria stated earlier in the year that the chemical agents were being moved to holding facilities with greater security in order to keep them out of the hands of Al Qeda factions.  The US believed the story and then in August we saw what happened...more and larger chemical weapons use.

That's why they call it "weapons of mass destruction" people.

If AQ gets those chemicals, that would be bad news.  If Assad was really being helpful, he'd let the UN in, cooperate with the investigation, and then work with the international community to secure the chemical munition stockpiles.  But, he's not being cooperative because he wants those chemical munitions to be held for his use and stockpiling.

Guardian story

http://www.theguardian.com/world/2013/sep/02/syria-crisis-french-intelligence-assad

When the French government is saying this, it tells me something.

The French are the last guys to go into the fight.  Now, they're the first?  The dateline is 9-2-2013.

More info here:

http://www.globalsecurity.org/wmd/world/syria/cw.htm

It's a concise analysis with footnotes.  And, it reports probable places where the chemical precursors were purchased by Syria...  it's the European Union.  That's why the EU and EU states are not willing to "jump to conclusions", they don't want to be blamed for selling the precursor chemicals to Syria in the first place.

I knew Syria couldn't synth the stuff on their own.  They have to buy the precursor chemicals from someone.

Repost from previous

Repost from previous thread

I'll tell you something. If France/UK/Germany etc do get in with The US to take Assad out (which I suspect they will), it is going to one damned cold winter without Russian gas if you get my drift. Or at the very least it will be very expensive !

Lookey what I found.   On I

Lookey what I found.   On I think Friday somebody posted an article that Germany was backing the US version of the story and that Germany had intelligence to suggest that Assad was behind the chemical attack although they didn't really know.

Now, it looks like Germany is backing the Russians.  Now that makes sense.   Why Germany back a country that steals it's gold and took away their economic sovereignty?

Now the MSM is reporting in lock step that Syria can avoid a strike if they turn over the weapons.

Another jewellery heist hits France, this time worth $2.6 mn

The heist near the upscale Place Vendome is the latest to hit France after a spate of high-profile robberies in the southern resort of Cannes. The heist near the upscale Place Vendome is the latest to hit France after a spate of high-profile robberies in the southern resort of Cannes.

Four men rammed their car into an upmarket jewellery store in central Paris on Monday, smashing the shopwindow and making off with a two-million-euro ($2.6-million) booty, a police source said.  The heist near the upscale Place Vendome is the latest to hit France after a spate of high-profile robberies in the southern resort of Cannes.

The police source, who wished to remain anonymous, said the men drove a large four-by-four car into the store in the early hours of the morning and grabbed jewellery and luxury watches worth an estimated two million euros.  They then set fire to the vehicle and escaped in another car. Forensic policemen are currently going through the site of the robbery at the Casty store on Rue de Castiglione in the central first district of Paris, which is home to numerous jewellery shops.

At the end of July, an armed man carried out a brazen robbery in broad daylight at a diamond exhibition at the Carlton hotel in Cannes, making off with jewellery worth 103 million euros in one of the world's biggest ever heists.

Paris has also been the scene of high-profile robberies. In December 2008, three men emptied almost all of the stock of gems from the Harry Winston jewellery store. In 2009, police said they had recovered 80 percent of the haul.

@boatman I think you need to

@boatman

I think you need to take up some Tai Chi and build up some of that internal qi to get your internal heater going.  Cold weather builds character.  That's why countries in cold weather are more productive than sub tropical countries.  Actually a relationship.

God created four seasons and Vivaldi even wrote a song about it.  I just had four months of beach.  Change is good.  Reminds one that life is about change.   Plus my ski's don't work on the dunes.

I'll take snow and clouds any day over constant humidity and living life going from house to car to mall just to be in air conditioning.   Christmas in Miami Beach?   Just not kosher.

Plus that kind of grass that people grow in Florida is like walking on a bed of nails.

Guess the metals might really be in a horizontal state of mind.   Talking weather.

Always a pleasure  GL.  Your fluid and clear writing exposes an intelligence that is superior.  The content naturally follows.  And I agree about the 4 seasons.  Funny I was just thinking that the other day.  Here in SW Ontario we have asymmetric representations of the seasons, but we have them and I am truly thankful.

A man always has two reasons for doing anything

What our Patriot Act does to a CIA asset that tells the truth.  First 37 minutes is CIA asset, rest is Q & A.  Why is this relevant?  Because the world is watching the US right now, distrust is arguably at an all time high, and the ramifications of writing the history you are about to create is substantial.

"During an interview in the Globo broadcast, Greenwald said the documents he obtained from Snowden contain "much more information on spying on innocents, against people who have nothing to do with terrorism, or on industrial issues, which need to be made public."

Folks would be well advised to look for these future documents to better understand where your tax dollars have been going and how they have been being used to harass law abiding citizens.  Congress should have to answer why this has been fully supported and why they have the right to trample our Constitution.

Counterfeit Dollars & Real Gold

Counterfeit dollars and real gold

On Tuesday, I wrote, “China, Russian, Brazil and other growing economies want to replace the dollar-as-the-world’s-reserve-currency with gold-backed oil trade.” And yesterday, in Cody Kiss & Tell: When to Sell, Ciena Price Target and More Cody Coming, I was asked to provide some links on that topic. Wars are rarely fought for the reasons we’re told and that are discussed in the mainstream media. Here’s some more info to challenge your thinking on Syria. Let’s get some gestalt from stepping back and looking at the headlines that matter and some that don’t.

Strategic Stock Trades - Of all the many traders I know and track, my old friend Rick Gobel’s got the hottest hand in the markets so far in 2013. His latest hit was ARO.

Economic Data Looks Pretty Good - Is bad news good news or is bad news bad news or is tapering good or is it bad and how do you like your eggs? Does the economic data matter to traders and investors at this stage of the cycle? Will the markets never correct (or nowadays is that “allowed to” correct?) in our lifetimes again? How much of this present economic data is already priced in with the markets near all-time highs and up huge from recent years? Good questions. Better to ask them now while it’s seemingly all good rather than later when the next downturn and/or crash comes.

Kids counterfeit millions of U.S. dollars in Peru - I guess Helicopter Ben Bernanke ain’t the only one printing dollars like a madman. Ba-da-bing! Don’t forget to tip the waitress.

Treasury yields close to 3% as prices tumble after economic data - Subscribers to Marketwatch Revolution Investing have been positioned perfectly to profit on this Treasury collapse and yield spike. Do you know the best way to profit on higher rates?......(more)
