1705 Holds Again
After a long day of boxing and shipping hats, I'm glad to finally sit down and bang out an update. Lots to talk about but not very much time. Let's get to it.
First and foremost, don't ya just love support that holds and holds and holds? $1705 gold is just that. The significance of that level goes all the way back to September. Here are some of the charts we've used in the time since:
And now here's today. Gold once again held 1705 as support and looks to go challenge 1740.
I found it interesting that, this time around, silver didn't challenge $31 at the same time. I printed off a chart and look what I found. It's not much but it's something:
OK. Next up, a procedural/content question. As the war drums beat louder, I've caught myself paying closer and closer attention to the headlines of the day. I've noticed that between my prowling and the readers, we seem to stumble upon notable headlines earlier than many other "news" sites, including at times ZH. Shall I change our format a little? Currently, I create new threads only once/twice per day and those threads become "Main Street". What if I were to always make my main, PM posts "sticky" and yellow at the top of the page and then use the space below to start discussions on each new, relevant/scary headline I see? Would that be too much comment/content dilution? Let me know what you think.

One last thing. By now, many of you have noticed the biblical "address" at the bottom of each page. I'm not trying to make a religious statement with it. It's simply something that has helped me through some challenging times in my life. Well I ran into a new one today and it seemed to fit perfectly with what we have created here. I won't quote it in this post because I think it would be more fun for you to discover it yourself. How many times we get the same old rumors regurgitated out of the Ezero? Whatever benron has to say 12/13 fomc it'll be sell the news or anti climatic. Maybe a 4-5 trillion QE print. Heaven knows he's ben handing off trillions under the table to primary dealers; probably the bulk of this hot money inflow DOW run. The whole Santa rally looks like one big black magic last gasp of a collapsing system. Dow still above 12K after the January effect, approx 1/20/2012, I'll believe bunrokio dead head feds still have control. Looking ever so sketchy

Love what you do now where you comment on the main thread with any 'new' news you have come across (unless I've completely misunderstood you).

I like things the way they are.
The issue is more of "number of pages of comments". You don't want that to get more than, say, 10 pages max. Otherwise, you open it up and know that it'll take hours to read them all. Even 5 might be a good ballpark. The time it gets there depends on the popularity of the post, of course, but if I was you I would base my posting cycle on that.

I'd keep the front page devoted to silver news and commentary.

Agree with others here, I'd like to see the front page remain the same, maybe put a link to a new headline-based page or a place in the forums for the other stuff. I think mainstreet is working pretty well and wouldn't like to see it become unfocused.

Thanks for the update. Silver is certainly looking interesting this afternoon.
As far as the idea of changing the format up a bit to include a "Sticky" post re PM's above all the other news centric posts - I, for one, like the idea. I know some folks say they don't want the Main Street area to include anything other than PM info - But - I believe these news issues we are talking about (certainly the potential conflicts in the MENA area) are absolutely pivotal to the economy and ultimately to Gold and Silver.
News is changing frequently hour by hour and Turdville certainly seems to be one of the best places to go and get a quick up-to-the-minute view of what's happening.

Regarding news content and the amount that is generated on here. I can crank it out at times and have held back at times also. (everyone's eye's just rolled there) I hear ya'.
I was going to start a news thread this weekend and maybe you just provided the bump. I'll do so later and post the thread here. Maybe it will help consolidate the news a bit and let me be the newsie I am. I like doing it.

Here's another thought re: News
How about we just make a separate section for news items?
I realize the top nav bar is getting crowded, but we can move "About" and "Contact" to the footer and put a "News" button up at the top. The news items can go in there.
If Turd is open to it, perhaps we could get a few community news contributors to volunteer to post some links up as well.
Home page would otherwise remain the same.

I think you may find things will get too splintered if there are 5 threads a day with people posting in each. I'd hate to miss a good post because I didn't get to that one blasted news thread. When there is more news than usual, just paste links as you have been, or maybe have a separate place as some have suggested. Just my 2 cents...
I'm not sure what this means
I'm not sure what this means but those of you who have miners I have been noting some moves up and down in some them the past couple of weeks. They go up and down with some regularity. Hecla, Endeavour Silver, Silver Corp. and Nova Gold. And sometimes this group includes El Dorado and Kinross. Just wondering if anyone else has been noticing this volatility. Usually swings of 25 cents to 50 cents or better.
Turd or someone with some better charting knowledge than me, what are you seeing? Thanks in advance!

Gold surprised the growing army of bears today. Soon it is going to resolve this symmetrical formation (the angles are beautiful) and when it does it is going to be wild.
I buy the dips because I am certain that $2000 is coming into view. Regardless, hold your Gold insurance close to your chest and not at Fast Eddie’s Clearing House.
